There was a firm trade for bulls and females at the British Limousin Cattle Society Show & Sale held at Dungannon Mart on Monday 8th February 2010 which saw bulls sold to a top of 4,000gns. 22 bulls overall averaged £2,410 mirroring last year’s performance whilst heifer averages were up £404 for 10 sold. 32 of the 40 animals forward found homes representing an 80% clearance rate.

Top price at 4,000gns was the Reserve Overall Champion, Craigatoke Decibull, a well-muscled October 2008 born bull by Haltcliffe Underwriter and out of Craigatoke Racy by Haltcliffe Novel, brought out by Plumbridge breeder Martin Conway when going under the hammer to W J McCaffrey Ballygawley, Co Tyrone. Master Judge Mr Karl O’Connell, Oldcastle, Co Meath had earlier put him up as Reserve Champion in the pre-sale show.

Two bulls made 3,200gns. Larkhill Director, a 16-month-old bull by Wilodge Tonka and out of Larkhill Unette by Jockey, was presented by Brian McAuley. New owner is S Malcolmson , Ballyward, Castlewellan Co Down. Hugh Hamill’s Ballykelly Danat by Limo Tanat and out of a Sympa-sired dam, Ballykelly Bella was knocked down to A Rainey Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh.

The highest priced female was Mark Stewart’s Reserve Female Champion, the March 2009-born Lenagh Elegance by the well-known sire, Ampertaine Abracadabra, and out of Lenagh Babe by Glenrock Spartacus selling at 2,400gns. She now heads to Joe Henry, Hollybank Farm, Antrim, Co Antrim.
