12 animals at 3,000gns and over

157 Limousin animals sold in all

The Dispersal Sale of the Cracrop Limousin Herd on behalf of Messrs DT & M Stobart, Cracrop Farm, Brampton, Cumbria held on Friday 19th August 2011 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw a top price of 5,500gns and 157 Limousins sold in all.  After fifty years in active farming, and ten years in Limousin breeding, the dispersal sale for Messrs Stobart was held due to their decision to retire.

Leading the Limousin trade was the July 2005 born senior herd sire, Mynach Axle.  Originally purchased for 12,000gns at Carlisle in May 2007, Mynach Axle is a Sable son and out of the dam, Mynach Rose and was sold with a Beef Value of LM+21. Described as very correct, well-fleshed and easy calving with 28 offspring catalogued in the sale, he sold for 5,500gns to JF & MB Teague, Temple House, Buteland Farm, Balerno, Edinburgh for their Teague pedigree herd.  Mynach Axle was bred by Messrs ED Griffiths, Cilgryman Fawr, Cwmfelin Mynach, Hen Dy Gwyn, Carmarthenshire.

Messrs Teague had earlier purchased Cracrop Angel, a January 2005 born fourth calver, by the Ronick Hawk son, Tomschoice Salem, and out of Brereton Serena, one of the Cracrop Herd’s foundation females. With a Beef Value of LM+24, the 3,500gns Cracrop Angel was sold served to Nebo Edgar and suckling her Mynach Axle-sired bull calf at foot, Cracrop Gabriel. Another heading to the Teague prefix was the 2008 born Cracrop Desirable, by Elrick Thunder and out of Rodcourt Pleaseme, who sold for 3,200gns having run with Cracrop Dennis.  Cracrop Desirable was purchased with her Mynach Axle-sired bull calf at foot, Cracrop Goodboy.

At 5,000gns was the junior herd sire, Nebo Edgar, a son of Objat and out of Nebo Briallen, who was purchased with a Beef Value of LM+41 by L Graham, Mid Lodge, Abercairny, Crieff, Perthshire. January 2009 born, the 16,000gns Nebo Edgar was purchased for the Cracrop herd at the 2010 BLCS May Sale held at Carlisle from breeder Mr M L Thomas, Bryn Farm, Nebo, Llanwrst, Conwy.

4,000gns was the price paid for Cracrop Debonair by DC & KL Hutchinson, Old Spital Farm, Bowes, Barnard Castle. July 2008 born, Debonair carries a Beef Value of LM+27 and is by Mynach Axle and out of Cracrop Upperclass, a son of the Cracrop Herd’s first stock bull, Redrock Orlando. She was snapped up with her heifer calf at foot, Cracrop Gringo, by Cracrop Dennis, and sold having run with the same bull.

Cracrop Fondant, an October 2010 maiden heifer, was next best at 3,600gns when going under the hammer to Drew Hyslop, Balluskie Farm, Barrhill, Girvan, Ayrshire for his Newshot Herd. By the AI sire Rocky, Cracrop Fondant is out of the homebred dam Cracrop Bonus and sold with a Beef Value of LM+32.

Sezincote Farms, Moreton in Marsh, Glocs paid the same figure for Cracrop Dewberry, an April 2008 born heifer by Elrick Thunder and out of Brereton Newberry. She was sold with her Nebo Edgar-sired heifer calf at foot, Cracrop Gwyn, and having run with Nebo Edgar. Sezincote Farms had earlier purchased three further Elrick Thunder daughters at 3200gns, and 2500gns (twice) respectively.
