Milbrook Gingerspice, the January 2011 born heifer brought out by Mr William Smith, Oldcastle, Co Meath, Southern Ireland was crowned Junior Interbreed & Overall Individual Interbreed Champion having earlier stood as Supreme Limousin Champion on the opening Day of the 2012 Royal Ulster Show at Balmoral on Wednesday 16th May. This made it a tremendous two-in-a-row for Mr Smith who last year secured both the Limousin and Interbreed championships with Milbrook Celine. Also featuring in this year’s show, Milbrook Celine had earlier teamed up with the Champion, Milbrook Gingerspice, together with Milbrook Esther to win the Limousin Group of Three award. May 2009 born, Esther is by Sympa and out of Brookmill Ursula.

Milbrook Gingerspice

Taking home the titles of Junior Female Champion, Overall Junior & Female Champion under Judge Miss Christine Williams, Lodge Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, Shrops on the way to winning the Overall Supreme Championship, Milbrook Gingerspice is sired by the prolific Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the homebred dam, Milbrook Baby.

For his Champion entry, Milbrook Gingerspice Celine, Mr Smith received the Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Best Limousin, the Broadmeadows Breeder’s Cup, the Jim Scott Perpetual Challenge Cup, the William Mulligan Rose Bowl for Female Champion, and of course the Individual Interbreed Championship title.

Trueman Grazia

Standing Reserve to Milbrook Gingerspice in all the aforementioned sections was Trueman Grazia exhibited by Mr Henry Savage & Sons, Skerriff Road, Altnamackin, Newry, Co Down. Having won the youngest heifer class, the April 2011 born Grazia is sired by the 100,000gns Haltcliffe Vermount and is out of the Irish-bred dam, Cookstown B1425. This result mirrored the 2011 show, where the Savages’ heifer (Trueman Euphonium) had followed a Milbrook heifer right through the judging.

Judge Christine Williams with Barney O'Kane

Junior Male & Overall Male Champion came in the shape of Carmorn Gallardo bred by C & F McAuley and brought forward by Barney O’Kane & Sons, Liscall Road, Garvagh, Coleraine. This yearling bull is by Ampertaine Eliminator and is out of Carmorn Bethany. The O’Kanes had previously secured the same Junior Male title at last year’s show with Keadyview Francis.

Carmorn Gallardo

Derek Frew, Kellswater Road, Antrim took home the Junior Male Reserve Championship with the June 2011 born Frewstown Gifted, sired by Carmorn Cantona and out of Frewstown Ugirl. Overall Reserve Male Champion was Jim Quail’s March 2009-born French-bred bull, Electeur, by Uruguay and out of Uliaison

Electeur

On the following day in the Interbreed Pairs and Group of Three competitions, Limousin animals secured the Reserve title in both awards. The Marks & Spencer Beef Pairs Championship was judged by Mr Billy Glazebrook, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.  In runner-up position were Jim Quail’s French-bred bull Electeur who teamed up with William Smith’s Milbrook Ester. Under the same judge for the Asda Beef Group Championship, Reserve went to the trio made up of Edward Tynan’s two heifers Elite Forever1 and Elite ForeverFree alongside Mr Quail’s bull, Electeur.

Limousin Group of Three

In the commercial cattle section, Red Hot Ruby owned by Lynsey Lawrence, Moneymore won the Commerical Beef Animal Championship. This June 2011 born heifer is sired by Carmorn Cantona and is out of a Limousin-cross first calving heifer and was purchased at Allam’s Primestock Show last November from Brian McAllister. On the way to her victory, she had also been awarded the Junior Commercial Championship for cattle born on or after 1st January. Commenting, Judge Donald Macpherson, Berwick-Upon-Tweed said: “My Champion is a classy, stylish heifer with a fantastic top to her who handled really well.”
