Clearance Rate 84%; 8 more animals sold on the Year

Gleneagle Ginger, consigned by Mr JB O’Kane, Brockagh Road, Garvagh, secured the 4,300gns top price at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Sale of Haltered & Unhaltered Females held at Ballymena Mart, Northern Ireland on Saturday 12th January 2013.

A packed sales ring, at what was the Society’s first sale of the 2013 year, realised a solid trade with 32 out of 38 females finding homes at a clearance rate of 84%.  The majority of animals were sold to local purchasers with four animals heading for export to the Republic of Ireland. Eight more animals sold on the year with 32 females averaging £1,670 overall.

The top-priced female, Gleneagle Ginger, had attracted a lot of attention prior to the sale with her exhibiting both presence and style. This July 2011-born maiden heifer is sired by the noted French sire Rocky and is out of Aghadolgan Annmarie, a Haltcliffe Hercules daughter. She now heads to the establishing pedigree herd of T Riley, Drumgreenagh Road, Madden, Co Armagh.

The same purchaser also secured the 3,100gns Heathmount Gleam consigned by Messrs McKinney Bros, Maghera. This June 2011-born heifer is sired by Bailea Bullion and is out of the homebred dam Heathmount Vixen, and holds a Beef Value of LM+24. Mr Riley also purchased Togherdoo Game at 3,000gns which was brought forward by Mr V Keys, Dromore. This July 2011-born heifer has a Beef Value of LM+35 and is sired by Elrick Atlas and is out of the dam Carmorn Ubell. With others at 1,300gns and 1,000gns respectively, Mr Riley snapped up five lots in all.

Second top price of the day at 3,900gns went to Scotchtown Gabrielle bred by Messrs L & R Allison, Limavady. This May 2011-born heifer is an AI calf sired by Ampertaine Commander and is out of the homebred dam, Scotchtown Angel, a Ronick Hawk daughter. Carrying a Beef Value of LM+30, Scotchtown Gabrielle was bought by local pedigree breeder Mr B Finnegan, Dungannon who runs the Finnegan Herd. Another from Messrs Allison, Scotchtown Gina, realised 2,300gns to S Smith, Cavan.  Gina is a Wilodge Cerberus daughter and is out of the Ronick Iceman daughter, Scotchtown Allison.

Heathmount Goldilocks from Messrs McKinney Bros, Maghera took a final bid of 2,800gns when going under the hammer to D Harrison, Annalong.  August 2011-born, she is by the Salomon son, Bailea Andre, and is out of the Ionesco-sired dam, Sarkley Bethany and was sold with a Beef Value of LM+28.

At the 2,500gns mark was Culnagechan Estelle from Mr D Hume, Randalstown. June 2009-born, Estelle is by Glenrock Vagrant and is out of the Broadmeadows Cannon granddaughter, Burnbank Ashley. She was sold with her Carmorn Copilot sired heifer calf Culnagechan Hussy at foot and PD’d back in calf to Culnagechan Exceptional. New owner is J Booth, Magherafelt.
