Buchaam Gigantic secured the leading price of 7,000gns for Limousin bulls at Thainstone (Aberdeen) on Wednesday, February 27th 2013, matching the breed centre record set by the same consignor Messrs C & E Ogg, Buchaam Farm, Strathdon at the corresponding sale last year. An Ironstone Bomber son and out of Buchaam Christina, a Walkers Travada daughter, the April 2011-born Buchaam Gigantic was knocked down to I Wilson, Fordie, Torphins, Banchory.

This annual multi-breed show and sale of pedigree beef bulls was held by Aberdeen & Northern Marts as part of the Royal Northern Spring Show. Trade was in line with last year for the same number of bulls sold with 21 bulls overall averaging £4,005.

The Oggs maintained their firm grip on the Limousin centre record having previously also held it with the 6,800gns Buchaam Dazzler in 2010 and then the 7,000gns Buchaam Funambule in 2012. With other bulls selling at 5000gns, 4000gns and 2600gns they grossed just shy of £20,000 for their four bulls here at Thainstone.

At 5,000gns was Buchaam Gambit, another son of the 2008 Balmoral Limousin and Interbreed Champion, Ironstone Bomber, and this time out of Buchaam Countess, a Ramses daughter. New owners are G&J Rattray, Mowatseat, Craigievar, Alford. Selling for 4,000gns to GO Hay, Mill of Auchintoul, Aberchirder, Huntly was Buchaam General. A son of the AI sire, Vermeil, and out of Cornsay Dew, General had stood Champion at the 2012 Tarland Show where he had also been part of the winning Beef Interbreed Pairs.

Second leading price came in the shape of the 6,000gns price tag for Dumbreck Glenlivit from D Work & Son, Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, Ellon. By the noted 42,000gns sire, Wilodge Vantastic, and out of the Broadmeadows Cannon daughter, Dumbreck Roxette, this May 2011-born bull heads with a Beef Value of LM+37 to E & S Jaffrey, Candyglirach, Drumoak, Banchory.

Selling for 5,500gns was Aultmore Giggs from G Hendry, Heads of Auchinderran, Keith, Banffs. Born in April 2011, Aultmore Giggs is a son of the 10,500gns Casimir and is out of Greenwell Dynasty, a Vagabond daughter. Purchasers were W&V Leith, North Crannoch, Crossroads of Grange, Keith.

Three further bulls went under the hammer at the 4,000gns mark. First of these was Elrick Gin from MJ Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, Ellon – Gin being sired by the 6,000gns Craigatoke Dundee, a Haltcliffe Underwriter son, and out of the Ryedale Paragon daughter, Elrick Vail. He sold with a Beef Value of LM+26 to WJ Fraser, Auchnarrow Farm, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch.

The next bull at 4,000gns came in the shape of the nineteen-month-old Shannas Gratitude (LM+39) consigned by Mr & Mrs J Penny, Shannas, Clola, Peterhead. Heading to Monymusk Farms, Monymusk, Inverurie, this bull is by another Haltcliffe Underwriter son, the 6,500gns Craigatoke Bart, bred by MJ Conway, Plumbridge, Co Tyrone, N Ireland, and is out of Shannas Amelia.

Mr S Irvine, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, Keith sold the July 2011-born Anside Goblin at the same money to the Udale Herd of J&J Henderson, Udale Farm, Poyntzfield, Dingwall. Sired by the 11,000gns stockbull, Frewstown Breakdance, and out of the Fleethill Talisman-sired Anside Corinne, he was knocked down with a Beef Value of LM+27.

A draft of five females from the Dumbreck Herd of Messrs D Work & Son sold to a top of 3,000gns for the January 2011-born Dumbreck Gemini. By the AI sire, Goldies Oswald, and out of the Greenbank Star daughter, Dumbreck Dainsi, she sold with a Beef Value of LM+20 to S Smith, Sunnyhill Croft, Shandscross, Turriff. The same buyer also took home the 1,700gns Dumbreck Gemmalou, sired by Oxygene and out of Shannas Annalou.
