The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) Breeders’ Sale held on behalf of Members of the South West Limousin Club on Wednesday 30th April 2014 at Holsworthy Market, Devon, realised a top price of 4,100gns. A largely commercial trade saw 8 bulls overall sold to an average of £3,261 with a 100% clearance of the bulls forward.

Top call of the day was the 4,100gns paid for the Supreme Champion Killerton Hiro from PW & SM Greed, Columbjohn Farm, Rewe, Exeter, Devon when going under the hammer to PG Bowditch, Stonebarrow Farm, Hawkchurch, Axminster, Devon. Described by Judge Stuart Clatworthy as a clean, well-balanced bull with an outstanding topline, the August 2012-born Hiro is by Chinauley Fibber, a Wilodge Tonka son, and is out of Killerton Esra. He sold with a Beef Value of LM+22.

Reserve Champion was again from Messrs Greed in the shape of Killerton Hornby who realized 2,900gns to DJ & DL Ward, Bridgtown, Iddlesleigh, Winkleigh, Devon. By Barrons Fjat (by Objat) and out of Killerton Una, he went under the hammer with a Beef Value of LM+20.

Second leading price was secured by JH Neale & Son, Wilkie Down, Boyton, Launceston, Cornwall with their second prize-winning bull, Nealford Hatfield, who was purchased for 3,350gns. Hatfield (LM+27) is by Haltcliffe Cyclone, winner of the best stock bull and progeny in the 2013 South West Limousin Club Herd Competition.

Two bulls from EW Quick & Sons, Loosebeare Manor, Zeal Monachorum, Crediton, Devon made 3,300gns and 3,000gns respectively. The first of these was Loosebeare Hasselhoff, December 2012-born, and an AI son of Lowerffrydd Empire and out of Loosebeare Valine who sold with a Beef Value of LM+43. The youngest catalogued bull, the January 2013-born Loosebeare Ivor made 3,000gns. Sired by Loosebeare Fantastic, a Wilodge Vantastic son, he is out of Loosebeare Fayley and went under the hammer with a Beef Value of LM+30.

The March 2010-born cow, Rosecroft Ferera, from Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler, Goodiford Mill, Kentisbeare, Devon made 2,500gs when selling with her March 2014-born bull calf at foot, Rosecroft Jonty. The dam is by Grahams Unbeatable and out of Bapton Aster with the calf being sired by the Ulm son, Rosecroft Greg.
