68% Clearance – Sale grosses £226,548
The Ronick Herd of Mr R Dick, Mains of Throsk, Stirling scaled a new peak at the Stirling Limousin Sale on Monday 18th October 2010 when securing their first Supreme Championship at Stirling and along with it the day’s top price of 11,000gns for Ronick Everest.
Champion Ronick Everest |
Sired by Fieldson Topaz and out of the homebred Ronick Sozelle, a Bailea Olympia daughter, this April 2009 born bull from the Dicks’ noted 160-strong pedigree herd, sold with a Beef Value of LM+24 to the commercial herd of J & P Carr Farms of Piddinghoe, Peacehaven, E Sussex in the South of England.
Overall, the day’s trade was solid and driven almost exclusively by commercial demand with 58 bulls averaging £3,906. The clearance rate of 68% was achieved from the 85 bulls forward. In the space of 48 hours, and following hard on the heels of the Society’s sale held at Carlisle, 163 Limousin bulls were sold in all to gross £856,973 and average £5,258.
Sale Ring |
Ronick Everest emerged as Champion of the Intermediate Section before being given the Supreme Championship nod by the judge Mr Mark Phillips, Broadoak, Low Braithwaite, Ivegill, Carlisle who runs his own Newmarque herd along with the family’s Mardoneen herd. In describing his Champion as ‘very much a breeder’s bull’, Mr Phillips said: “This bull was full of quality and hard to fault. He is extremely balanced and full in the hind quarter. Good in the top, he was very correct and stood in an excellent Championship line-up.”
Everest’s sire, Fieldson Topaz, was purchased at Carlisle in May 2004 for 8,000gns. Earlier this year, Ronick Everest had been shown and stood Reserve Limousin Champion at Perth Show in August as well as securing a second prize at the Royal Highland to Maraiscote Ember who sold for 15,000gns at Carlisle two days previously.
Glenrock Eduardo |
Through the sale, 9 bulls in all sold at 5,000gns or more. The second top price of the day was the 8,500gns paid for the stylish Junior Champion, Glenrock Eduardo, an April 2009 born son of Bremore Artist and out of Glenrock Bridget, from Mr S Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie. Buying the bull in a half share was JW Gibb of Toftcombs, Biggar, and T Lang of Parduvine, Rosewell. Showing a depth of performance through breeding, it is notable that the dams of the two bulls sold at Carlisle two days previously for 22,000gns respectively both went back to the Glenrock Bridget bloodline. Eduardo’s sire, Bremore Artist was purchased out of Roscrea for 9,600 Euros. His first son at auction sold for 10,000gns and he was also sire to the pedigree Champion at the 2009 Scottish Winter Fair.
Grahams Davycooper |
At 8,000gns was the upstanding Senior Champion Grahams Davycooper, a November 2008 born bull consigned by local breeders Mr & Mrs R & J Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Stirling. French bred, Grahams Davycooper is sired by Ushuaia and out of the dam, Orange. He was purchased by brothers Ian & Alan Hunter for their noted commercial herd at Dalchirla, Muthill, Crieff. Ushuaia is also the sire of Grahams Bonzo, a bull bought privately by the Ronick herd and who featured as part of the winning Interbreed Limousin team of Four at this year’s Royal Highland Show. The Grahams’ Senior Championship followed their Supreme Championship attained at the February 2010 Stirling pre-sale show.
Hot on the heels of their good trade on the Saturday, Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Cumbria followed up with the sale of Haltcliffe Eros at 7,500gns. A first prize winner, Eros is a May 2009 son of the prolific Sympa and is out of Ronick Red, a Broadmeadows Cannon daughter. He was purchased with a high Beef Value of LM+41 by Mr H Mackay, Wester Tomloan, Ardclach, Nairn.
Maraiscote Enrico |
Reserve Junior Champion, Maraiscote Enrico from Ian Nimmo, Bogside Farm, New Mains, Wishaw, Lanark capped a fine few days for the Maraiscote herd when he sold for 7,200gns to Mr R Miller, Barnyards of Badenyoucher, Cornhill, Banffshire. This April 2009 son of Virginia Andy is out of Maraiscote Trendy, a Tyddyn Mei daughter. Two further Maraiscote bulls, both by Virginia Andy the 2009 Royal Highland Limousin Champion, had sold at Carlisle 48 hours previously for 15,000gns and 12,000gns respectively. Previously the Marasicote herd had won the Supreme Championship at Perth and placed Senior Champion at Stirling in February this year.
Westhall Black Diplomat |
Mr A Fotheringham of Craighall, Forgandenny, Perth, received 6,200gns for the red-coated Westhall Black Diplomat. This December 2008 born bull with a Beef Value of LM+23 is by Mardoneen Banker and out of the Hewsons Golddust-sired Westhall Sexonlegs. The purchaser was Mr Terry Coghill, Muce, Birsay, Orkney.
Emslies Diablo |
Another heading to Mr Coghill was Emslies Diablo brought out by Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, Peterhead at the 6,000gns mark. Diablo is by Hartsideanew Argos and out of Ballymoney Mistralle whose pedigree goes back to the noted cow Ballymoney Veronica. Hartsideanew Argos himself was the Male Champion and Reserve Overall at the 2008 Royal Highland Show. Emslies Diablo had earlier taken home the Reserve Senior title to add to the Group of Three title secured two days earlier at Carlisle.
Kype Ernie |
Also with the 6,000gns price tag was Kype Ernie from Mr R Cruickshank, Little Kype, Strathaven. Ernie is a March 2009 son of Roughley Adonis and out of Kype Beauty, a Cloughhead Lord daughter. This bull with a Beef Value of LM+30 was another to go to Orkney when purchased by J & IM Sinclair, Shapinsay.
The Overall Reserve Supreme Champion was Calla Euan from Mr D Baillie, Calla Farm, Carnwath, Lanark. A powerful son of Haltcliffe Underwriter, Calla Euan is out of the homebred Calla Anna and carried a high Beef Value of LM+41. This bull was bid to 9,000gns but was retained by the Calla herd.
A small show of females saw a championship one-two for the Newhouse herd of Messrs RM Adam & Son, Newhouse of Glamis, Glamis, Forfar. Taking the championship was the July 2009 born heifer Newhouse Eyeful by Hudscales Bigboy and out of Newhouse Boops.
