The 2012 Royal Highland Winter Fair set the stage for the inaugural Pure Limousin classes which were judged by noted suckled calf producer Michael Scott of Thirlwall Castle, Brampton, Cumbria.
And having won the intermediate heifer class, Foxhillfarm Gracie from Michael, Melanie and Charlotte Alford, Cullompton, Devon, secured the Overall Championship. This August 2011-born homebred heifer is by the highly acclaimed 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the 15,000gns foundation female Bankdale Alice who was purchased at the Bankdale Dispersal Sale at Carlisle while in-calf with Gracie. As the pure classes were being judged Michael Alford himself was hard at work as the judge in the blue-riband commercial cattle classes and championships!
Foxhillfarm Gracie has already made an impression on the show circuit having stood second on her first outing in a strong baby heifer class at the Royal Welsh in the summer.
Standing Reserve to her was Anside Gigolo from Stephen & Martin Irvine, Moray, Aberdeenshire. Born November 2011, this one is by Derriaghy Enfield, the 22,000gns stock sire owned in partnership with Emslies Livestock, and is out of the Wilodge Tonka daughter, Larkhill Didi. Shown on his second outing, he had previously taken the Senior Interbreed Championship at Forfar Mart’s Stars of the Future Calf Show.
