Foxhillfarm Gracie, from Michael and Melanie Alford, Foxhillfarm, Blackborough, Cullompton, Devon won the Limousin Championship, and the Overall Individual Interbreed title, on the opening day of the 2013 Great Yorkshire Show held at Harrogate on Tuesday 9th July 2013. This latest breed championship followed on from her similar successes at this year’s Royal Highland, Royal Three Counties, Royal Bath & West and Royal Cornwall shows respectively.
The rising two year old Foxhillfarm Gracie is by the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the 15,000gns female Bankdale Alice who was purchased at the Bankdale Dispersal Sale at Carlisle in July 2011 whilst in calf with Gracie. Mirroring the result at this year’s Royal Highland, standing Reserve Overall and Reserve Female was Glenrock Fantastic from Mr and Mrs S D Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie whose herd comprises around 50 pedigree cows.
Judging the Limousin classes was Mr Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries, who said of his champion “This was a super heifer from a fantastic team of females – big, long, clean and a very impressive female all round”. Commenting on his Reserve Champion, he said “she is a tremendous example of the breed with length and outstanding breed character”.
Late in the afternoon, Foxhillfarm Gracie capped a fine day when she went head to head with the other breed champions and was awarded the Overall Interbreed Individual Championship. The judge on this occasion was Mr Arwel Owen, Welshpool, Powys.
Foxhillfarm Gracie had earlier in the day taken the Overall Limousin Junior Championship. Millington Highlight, from Millington Grange Estate, Millington, York, once again sired by Wilodge Vantastic, was placed reserve. The judge Bruce Goldie described Millington Highlight as “a super heifer – hard muscled and a great mover”.

Mayfields Hisgrace from Mr and Mrs A Clark, Ringinglow, Sheffield, a Marlepark Elite son, took the reserve spot. The same pairing stood Junior Male Champion and Reserve.
