Brockhurst Bolshoi from Doug Mash, Torrington Farm, Grove Lane, Chesham, Bucks followed on from her win at this year’s Royal Highland Show to secure the Limousin Championship on the first day of judging Tuesday 8th July at the 2014 Great Yorkshire Show.
Shown with her Brockhurst Centurion-sired bull calf at foot, Brockhurst Imacelebrity, the eight-year-old Brockhurst Bolshoi is by the 55,000gns Grahams Samson and is out of the herd’s noted cow Ronick McAinsi. Brockhurst Bolshoi is a previous winner at the Great Yorkshire having been champion here back in 2011.
Judge was Andrew Ewing, Dumbretton Farms, Annan, Dumfries who was presented with an increased entry of 70 cattle forward with plenty of depth and quality throughout.
Overall Reserve & Female Reserve Champion was the January 2012-born Millington Highlight from Millington Limousins Ltd, The Grange, Millington, York. By Wilodge Vantastic, Millington Highlight is out of Brockhurst Option (Ronick Matador x Ronick McAinsi) reinforcing a link on the dam’s side to the Champion and Doug Mash’s Brockhurst Herd.
Another following on from success at the Highland was Stephen Illingworth’s Junior Overall & Junior Female Champion Glenrock Illusion. This stylish January 2013-born heifer is by the prolific Goldies Comet, a Wilodge Vantastic son, and is out of the herd’s noted cow Glenrock Spangle.
Reserve Junior Female Champion came in the shape of Sevengun Ivina from first-time Limousin exhibitor Tony Booth, Hardwick Hall Farm, Aston, Sheffield. Born in April 2013, she is by Millgate Fame and is out of Bankdale Davina.
Ian Nimmo, Bogside Farm, Newmains, Wishaw, Lanark brought out the Reserve Overall Male, Junior Male & Reserve Overall Junior Champion Maraiscote Idol. Idol is another by Goldies Comet (Wilodge Vantastic x Goldies Vitality) and is out of the Normande Urquhart daughter, Maraiscote Bop.
The Reserve Junior Male title went to Gunnerfleet Hicks from Garrowby Estate Farms, Bugthorpe, York. Bred by Ian Handley, Ingleton, Lancs he is by Dolcorsllwyn Brynmor, a Nenuphar son, and is out of the French dam Ellora.
Rounding off a terrific day for Doug Mash and bringing the Limousin judging full circle was the Male Champion Brockhurst Elvis who is sired by Samy and is out of the day’s Champion herself, Brockhurst Bolshoi.
