Ronick Pleasure peaks production sale at 14,000gns
On Saturday 31st July a crowd of new and established breeders made their way to Borderway Mart, Carlisle to see the production sale from the Ronick and Stephick herd on behalf of the Dick family, Mains of Throsk Farm, Stirling. This highly anticipated sale had high demand after the online promotion and on farm viewing of the top-class cattle on offer. Purchases were secured both in the mart, by phone and online with over 200 online registered bidders. The British Limousin Cattle Society Breeders’ Sale had a catalogue entry of 101 pedigree Limousin cattle and saw a strong clearance across the two herds.
Delighted with trade Stephanie Dick from the herds remarked ‘We received overwhelming interest at home ahead of the sale, and we were delighted to have over 200 registered bidders online for the sale. It was great to see a healthy trade delivering strong averages, with cattle selling across the UK.’ Breed secretary Will Ketley commented ‘The sale was a real credit to the Dick family and their team on the day, with the animals living up to the expectations of their pedigree and their presale photos. The trade reflects the quality of bloodlines, which are a rare opportunity to purchase.’
Leading the sale at 14,000gns was Ronick Pleasure, a December-19 naturally born heifer sired by Rathconville Eugene who was purchased by the herd in 2011 for 17,000gns. Daughter of Ronick Joy, a great granddaughter of Ronick Janita, one of the most noted cows in the Ronick herd and is one of the family’s top picks. Pleasure carries myostatin of NT821 and Q204X and a beef value in the top 10% of the breed of LM45. Trevor Shields finds pleasure in taking this heifer home to Kilkeel, Newry, Northern Ireland where she will join the newly established Glenmarshal herd.
Hot on her heels was Ronick Pizazz, going under the hammer for 11,000gns. This January-19 born heifer is sired by Wilodge LJ, a son of Gerrygullinane Glen and out of Ronick Jazzy. Displaying two sets of the F94L ‘profit’ myostatin gene, she was sold in calf to Broadmeadows Cannon. Again, catching the eye of Trevor Shields, Pizazz joins Pleasure in the Glenmarshal herd.
Ronick Popsicle also achieved 11,000gns after catching the eye of Ian Miller, of the Millers herd. Sired by Wilodge Granville, who was purchased by the herd in 2012 for 7,000gns, she is out of the homebred cow, Icicle, a great granddaughter of Rocky. This October-19 born heifer displays myostatin of NT821 and Q204X and an impressive beef value of LM51. Ian Millar was very pleased to purchase Popsicle after he visited the farm pre-sale where she caught his eye. He commented ‘Popsicle had all the breed characteristics he desires, power, character sweet nature along with the ‘Q gene’ which is ticking every box for the Millers herd. He plans, to flush this heifer in the future.
Closely following was Ronick Ruth who achieved 8,000gns. This May-20 born heifer was sired by the aforementioned Wilodge Granville and out of homebred cow Lucy who is a daughter of Stephick Hero. Ruth displays myostatin of NT821 and Q204X and a beef value of LM40. Heading over the water to Newry, County Down, Ruth goes to commercial buyer Mr D Small.
Next in line at 7,800gns was Ronick Maho, sold in calf to Westpit Nando and her calf heifer calf at foot, Ronick Sopretty. This four-year-old cow is sired by 23,000gns Goldies Comet and out of the homebred cow, Daho, a daughter of Bailea Olympia who was purchased by the herd in 2000 for 14,000gns. The April-21 born heifer calf at foot, Sopretty, was sired by Westpit Nando. This smart outfit also heads over the water to Newry with Trevor Shields of the Glenmarshal herd.
Next in the ring and next to make the report at 7,000gns is Ronick Lightening, sold in calf to Westpit Nando and with her heifer calf Ronick Shootingstar at foot. Lightening, a May-15 born cow is sired by Rathconville Eugene and is out of Ronick Delight who is another daughter of Bailea Olympus. Shootingstar is a daughter of Ampertaine Jamboree, who was purchased by the herd in 2015 for 45,000gns. This outfit caught the eye of Mr A MacGregor and now calls Bannockburn, Stirling home.
Ronick Nicole went under the hammer for 6,000gns, in calf to Westpit Nando with her heifer calf Ronick Smartie at foot. This May-17 born cow is sired by Stephick Hero and is out of Honest. Nicole displays myostatin of F94L and NT821. Heifer calf at foot Smartie is one of the few Millgate Ohboy on offer after the herd purchased him last year for 10,000gns. This outfit now calls Orkney home with Mr Ballie of the Sebay herd.
Next to reach 6,000gns was Ronick Pandora. This January-19 born heifer is a 45,000gns Ampertaine Jamboree son and is out of homebred cow Davina. This heifer displays myostatin traits of F94L/Q204X. Pandora was a real treasure in the catalogue, being the only animal on offer in calf to Castlebrook Paddington, the newest stock sire to be purchased at Ronick. Pandora now calls Inverurie home with commercial buyer Davidsons Farm Ltd.
Closely following at 5,900gns was Ronick Nigella, in calf to Westpit Nando with her heifer calf Senorita at foot. Nigella, an April-17 born cow is sired by Stephick Hero and out of homebred cow Idylle. Her heifer calf at foot Senorita is sired by Ronick Laddie. This outfit heads to Mid Wales with commercial buyers G & A Orrells.
The auctioneer for the sale, Harrison and Hetherington’s James Little was exceptionally happy with the sales proceedings, commenting ‘all classes of the sale sold extremely well. Pedigree purchasers secured the top end lots; however, a strong commercial trade underpinned the sale. The day displayed the confidence and reinvestment available within the industry.’ The Society would also like to extend our congratulations to James who tied the knot last weekend.
