The British Limousin Cattle Society welcomed the second sale of the year at United Auctions in Stirling on Monday the 2nd May 2022. 30 bulls achieved an average of £5,096 which is £455 up on 2021. A sale which is continuously supported by commercial buyers, this year was no exception with the majority of the bulls going to commercial homes.  

Top price 9,500gns Spittalton Rambler

Top price for the day was 9,500gns for Spittalton Rambler, brought forward by Mr J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton Farm, Stirling. Rambler is sired by Dlyans Irnbru and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Lil. This August 2020-born bull displays a myostatin of F94L/Q204X and a Beef Value of LM39 and goes on to work for W Steel and Co, Cumberhead, Lanark. Mr Burnett sold a further four bulls achieving an average of £6,300 for the day.

Overall champion Spittalton Robroy 6,000gns

The next top price for the Spittalton herd was the overall champion Spittalton Robroy who was knocked down at 6,000gns. He boasts a Beef Value of LM42 placing him in the top 10% of the breed and exhibits F94L/Q204X myostatin. He is sired by Burnbank Judge and is out of the homebred cow Spittalton Hilary. This September 2020-born bull goes home to M Dykes, Drumtree Farm, Ayrshire.

Next up for the Spittalton herd at 5,500gns was the November 2020-born Spittlaton Redlabel.  Redlabel is sired by Barrons OJ and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Oielle. He boasts double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM34. Redlabel took the short journey home to R McLaren, Hardieston Farm, Stirling.

Achieving 5,000gns was the September 2020-born Spittalton Raulph also bred by the Spittalton herd. Raulph has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM35. He is sired by Barrons OJ and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Linky, who goes back to Dinmore Hitman.  Raulph caught the attention of Martin Bignal, Smaladh, Argyll.

The final sale of the day for the Spittalton herd was the 4,000gns Spittalton Rumbler. The September 2020-born bull has double F94L myostatin results and a Beef Value of LM40. He is sired by the 35,000gns Ampertaine Majestic and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Lippy. Rumbler got the crowd booming and the final bid was won by Scottish Government Bull Stud, Knocknagael, Inverness.

Dyke Runrig 7,200gns

J R MacGregor Ltd located at Dyke Farm, Glasgow sold two bulls, the first being the April 2020-born Dyke Runrig who sold for 7,200gns. He is sired by the 12,000gns Goldies Lordoftherings and out of the homebred cow Dyke Madonna. He has double F94L myostatin and has an impressive Beef Value of LM45 placing him the in top 10% of the breed. Runrig was purchased by N A McCulloch, Kenmuir, Wigtownshire.

Dyke Renegade 7,000gns

Following closely behind for the same vendor at 7,000gns was Dyke Renegade. Renegade displays a myostatin of F94L/NT821 and boasts a Beef Value of LM44 placing him in the top 10% of the breed. This June 2020-born bull, who was placed second in his class, is sired by the renowned Wilodge LJ and out of the homebred cow Dyke Lavender. He attracted the attention of Islay Estates Co, Bridgend, Isle of Islay.

Corsairtly Robroy 6,800gns

The Scottish Government Bull Stud snapped up two bulls which were brought forward for sale by Mr R and K Davidson, Corsairtly Farm, Banffshire. The first was Corsairtly Robroy at 6,800gns. Born in September 2020, this bull displays double F94L myostatin and has a Beef Value of LM37. He is sired by Millburn Luquacious and out of the homebred cow Corsairtly Lesley, who goes back to Goldies Dictator.

Corsairtly Rocknroll 6,500gns

Reserve overall champion for the day and selling for 6,500gns was Corsairtly Rocknroll, a second purchase by the Scottish Government Bull Stud for a bull bred by the Corsairtly herd. Rocknroll, born September 2020, has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM40. He is sired by Millburn Luquacious and out Barrons Julip, which the herd purchased in 2015. 

Newhouse Ringo 6,200gns

Winning first in his class and selling for 6,200gns was Newhouse Ringo, presented by Messrs R M Adam and Son. This July 2020-born bull has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM25. Ringo is sired by Burnbank Northernlad, which the herd purchased in 2018 for 5,500gns, and is out of the homebred cow Newhouse Hilary. Ringo was a star in the eyes of W S L Muir of Corrigall pedigree Limousins, who took him home to Upper Onston, Orkney. Messrs R M Adam and Son went on to sell a further three bulls achieving an average of £4,331 for the day.

Anside Rooney 6,200gns

Mr and Mrs S Irvine, Braehead Farm, Banffs, sold three top priced bulls, the first being Anside Rooney. Rooney played the field with the final bid scoring 6,200gns to B Buchan, Wyreema, Fraserburgh. This December 2020-born bull was placed second in his class at the pre-sale show. He exhibits double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM41, placing him in the top 10% of the breed. Rooney is sired by the homebred bull Anside Orton, who won overall champion at Stirling October 2019, and is out of the homebred cow Anside Owena.

The Anside herd went on to sell two more bulls Anside Ringo and Anside Rookie for 5,000gns a piece. Anside Ringo is a November 2020-born bull, who has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM41 placing him in the top 10% of the breed. He is the first son offered for sale by Anside Oden and out Larkhill Mairead, who the herd purchased in 2017. He heads North to T Howden, Stanley Farm, Perthshire.

His shed mate Anside Rookie, who was also knocked down for 5,000gns, is sired by the 32,000gns Ampertaine Elgin and is out of the homebred cow Anside Nadia, who goes back to Powerful Irish. Rookie was born in November 2020 and has F94L/Q204X myostatin. He now resides with A McAllister, Blairmore, Glasgow.

The May 2020-born Stephick Rebellious presented by Stephanie Dick, Westerton of Cowie, Stirling went under the hammer for 6,000gns. Rebellious has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM41, placing him in the top 10% of the breed. He is sired by the 45,000gns Ampertaine Jamboree and is out of the homebred cow Stephick Marvelous. He was purchased by Rathillet Farms Limited, Rathillet Farm, Fife.

Procters Rodez 5,400gns

Another high price for the day was 5,400gns, paid for Procters Rodez, who was brought forward by Mr N R Barclay, South Road, Insch. Rodez boasts double F94L myostatin and has an impressive Beef Value of LM46, which places him in the top 10% for the breed. He is sired by the aforementioned Ampertaine Majestic and is out of Procters Gwen, who the Harestone herd purchased at the Procters Dispersal Sale 2021 for 5,200gns. Rodez, who placed first in his class, was taken home by W J Fraser, Little Croy, Inverness.

Second purchase of the day for A McAllister was Aultside Realmcoy at 5,200gns. Bred by Garry Patterson, Upper Forgie, Keith, Realmcoy is sired by the popular AI bull Plumtree Fantastic and out of the renowned Foxhillfarm Missmoneypenny, who goes back to Foxhillfarm Irishlad. This embryo calf was born in November 2020 and has F94L/NT821 myostatin.

Females

At 3,800gns, top price female for the day was Lomond Magic, bred by Andrew Orr, Lomondmuir Farm, Kinross. Magic is sired by Windsole Godfrey and out of Lodge Femme, who goes back to Attila. This May 2016-born cow was sold with her bull calf at foot Lomond Samuel, who was born in December 2021, and is sired by Swarland Igolo. Magic cast a spell over Robert Warnock who took the outfit home to High Bent Farm, Lanarkshire.

Mr J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton Farm, Stirling, presented a draft of seven heifers for sale averaging £2,445. Achieving 2,700gns was Spittalton Roslin, a September 2020-born heifer displaying double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM36.  Roslin is sired by Burnbank Judge who the herd purchased at Carlisle in 2016 for 6,000gns. She is out of the homebred cow Spittalton Ingrid who goes back to Haltcliffe Vermount. Roslin was purchased by K MacKay, Upper Ardnagrask, Ross-shire.

The aforementioned Rathillet Farms Limited went on to further purchase three heifers bred by the Spillalton herd. Spittalton Rattle who is an August 2020-born heifer, sold for 2,400gns and rattled the cage of Rathillet Farms Limited. She is sired by Ampertaine Majestic and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Lample, who goes back to Glenrock Ventura.

The same purchaser also bought Spittalton Rosina and Spittalton Renella for 2,000gns each. Spittalton Rosina is an August 2020-born heifer, sired by Ampertaine Majestic and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Fudge. Spittalton Renella is a December 2020-born heifer, sired by the 40,000gns Ampertaine Opportunity and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Derry.

R Currie, Low Dunashery, Argyll, snapped up 2,400gns Spittalton Reen bred by the Spittalton herd, a September 2020-born heifer. Reen has double F94L myostatin and is sired by Ampertaine Majestic. She is out of the homebred cow Spittalton Loreen, who goes back to Dinmore Hitman.

Also achieving the same price of 2,400gns for the Spittalton herd was Spittalton Rash and Spittalton Raindrop. Rash is a September 2020-born heifer, exhibiting double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM34. She is sired by Burnbank Judge and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Jade. Raindrop is a November 2020-born heifer with a Beef Value of LM31. She is sired by Barrons OJ and out of the homebred cow Spittalton Offer, who goes back to Burnbank Judge. Both heifers caught the eye of H M Morrison, of the Westwind pedigree Limousin herd, based in Killeonan, Argyll.
