- Petteril Sugababe crowned overall champion
- Limousin bred cattle take overall and reserve overall commercial champion
- Judge Rob Kirton from the Ashledge pedigree Limousin herd
As the UK braced for another summer heatwave, Limousin breeders gathered in Ring 12 at the Great Yorkshire Show on the 9th of July 2025. Crowds packed around the ring, demonstrating the strong interest and enthusiasm that surrounds the Limousin breed and the wider beef industry.

Judging the classes was Mr Rob Kirton of the Ashledge pedigree Limousin herd, based in Worcestershire. He awarded the overall and female championship to Petteril Sugababe, owned by Sean Mitchell of Penrith, Cumbria. She follows on from a successful Highland Show where she was second in her class and part of the winning interbreed group.
Rob Kirton commented “My champion stood out from the first moment she entered the ring. She carries her head high and caught my eye immediately. She is a very stylish and well-balanced cow and carries many the attributes I would look for in a Limousin female. She is powerful, has great presence and is very feminine. She is producing the goods with a cracking heifer calf at foot.”

Bred by Stephen & Ann Morley based in Carlisle, Sugababe is a May 2021-born embryo calf with NT821/Q204X myostatin and boasts a Beef Value of LM48, placing her in the top 10% of the breed. She was shown with a Claragh Franco calf at foot. She is sired by the renowned Ampertaine Foreman, who sold for 38,000gns at Carlisle in 2012, and is out of the homebred Petteril Olympia, herself a daughter of Mereside Lorenzo.

Male champion also came from Sean Mitchell in the form of Huttonend Vinnie. This January 2024 born Wilodge Randy son is the first calf from the overall champion, Petteril Sugababe. Vinnie came through the male classes earlier in the day, also being crowned junior male champion. Born January 2024, he has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM49, which is in the top 10% for the breed. He is now destined for the Autumn bull sales at Carlisle in October.

Reserve overall and reserve female champion went to Brockhurst Upandcoming, bred by W.J. & M. Mash Ltd of Chesham, Buckinghamshire. Born in April 2023, Upandcoming carries F94L/Q204X myostatin and is sired by Goldies Relish, a descendant of Ampertaine Opportunity. Her dam is the homebred Brockhurst Lindsey, a daughter of Wilodge Vantastic, who achieved 42,000gns at Carlisle in 2006. This cow family has enjoyed previous show success as Wilodge Lindsey is a full sister to Brockhurst Heavenly who was crowned interbreed champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2016.

Junior champion was awarded to the junior female champion Impulsive Urox from Steven Wilson, Carlisle. This September 2023-born heifer has Q204X myostatin and is sired by the herds stock bull Deveronvale Razzledazzle, who was purchased at Carlisle in May 2022 for 24,000gns. She is out of the home bred cow Impulsive Roxy, who is a Mereside Mckay daughter.

The Mash family enjoyed further success claiming reserve male champion and reserve junior male champion with their Shaws Rover son, Brockhurst Vanquish. Shaws Rover was purchased for 16,000gns in 2021 to join the Brockhurst herd as a stock bull. Vanquish is April 2024-born and has F94L/Q204X myostatin. He is out of the homebred cow Brockhurst Lindsey who is a Wilodge Vantastic daughter.

Reserve junior champion was claimed by Glenrock Vesuvius. This Powerful Irish daughter was purchased by Steven Wilson, Carlisle for 15,000gns at the Weaned Calves Show and Sale at Red Ladies in December 2024 in Carlisle. She is out of a Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Eagleside Lafayette. Vesuvius enjoyed show success last winter claiming overall Limousin junior champion at Stars of the Future in November and was also a first prize winner at the Highland Show.
Limousin bred cattle also dominated the commercial rings.
Female champion and overall commercial champion was Ivyfarm Unique. Sired by Huntershall Romanus and out of the Trueman Idol daughter Garnedd Model, who has enjoyed success herself in the show ring, being a previous champion of the East of England Winter Fair. This heifer was bred by Jackson and Wilkinson and was exhibited by Messers Hyslop and Sedgewick. Earlier this year, she also took champion honours at the Malton Show.
The champion male was also Limousin bred, Pourmeadrink exhibited by G & J A Sedgewick. This flashy 16-month-old steer is sired by Maraiscote Shaan. He was purchased in Thainstone last August from the Fraser Family, Easter Clune, Nairn.
