Maiden Heifer Glenrock Illusion sells for new world record for a pedigree Limousin of 125,000gns (£131,250) at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, UK. The previous record was £126,000 for Limousin bull Dolcorsllwyn Fabio, set in 2012.
- Glenrock Illusion 125,000gns (£131,250)
- 24,000gns Twice
- Sale Gross £500,000+
The Sale of the Glenrock Limousin Herd on behalf of Mr & Mrs Stephen Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Dumfries saw a new Limousin World Record of 125,000gns paid for the maiden heifer Glenrock Illusion. A stunned audience at Borderway Mart witnessed the new record mark when Illusion was snapped up by Mike & Melanie Alford, Foxhill Farm, Blackborough, Cullompton, Devon.
A huge crowd saw Glenrock Illusion, a January 2013-born embryo calf by Goldies Comet and out of Glenrock Spangle, go under the hammer for £131,250 having stood as Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion at the 2014 Royal Highland as well as Perth Limousin Grand Prix Champion earlier this month. This beat the £126,000 mark set for Limousin bull Dolcorsllwyn Fabio in 2012.
Held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Friday 22nd August, this much-anticipated British Limousin Cattle Society Breeders’ Sale was billed as a Sale of the Glenrock Herd including Show Team and was brought about to help fund the purchase of the Illingworths’ Howgillside Farm which they currently rent. The twelve-year-old cow Glenrock Spangle, who has bred females to 20,000gns (Glenrock Bianca, Red Ladies 2007) and bulls to 16,000gns (Glenrock Fortune, Carlisle May 2012), will be retained in the herd.
Based on three noted cow families (Glenrock Juniper, Glenrock Spangle and Glenrock Saspirilla), Glenrock has produced many Championship winners and leading sale-priced bulls and females since its establishment in 1982 with the purchase of two Funambule-sired heifers, Funambule being part of the original importation of Limousins from France in 1971.
During the last three years alone, show successes for the Glenrock prefix include Reserve Supreme Champion at the 2013 Royal Highland & Great Yorkshire Shows (Glenrock Fantastic), Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion at this year’s Highland Show (Glenrock Illusion) as well as Champion Herd in the North West Limousin Club 2013 Herd Competition.
A price tag of 24,000gns was reached twice. Glenrock Impulse (lot 57), a January 2013-born embryo calf by Goldies Comet and out of Glenrock Spangle sold for this figure being a full sister to Glenrock Illusion.
Also at 24,000gns and heading to Procters Farms was a cow and calf outfit this being the 15,000gns Glenrock Diamante (lot 14), 2008-born sired by Objat and out of the Festin-sired Glenrock Dupree. At 9,000gns was her November 2013-born heifer calf Glenrock Imp, sired by Glenrock Spartacus to the same home. Glenrock Diamante was sold in-calf to Glenrock Highwayman.
The first lotted Glenrock Spangle daughter (lot 8) sold for 16,000gns also to Procters Farms. This was in respect of the Cloughhead Lord daughter, the 2007-born female Glenrock Campari, who sold with her heifer calf at foot, Glenrock Jackie (by Goldie Comet). She was sold back in-calf to Dinmore Goldcrest.
At 19,000gns was Glenrock Fantastic (lot 27), an embryo calf by the 100,000gns Haltcliffe Vermount and out of Glenrock Spangle, this November 2010-born first calver was sold with her January 2014-born heifer calf at foot, Glenrock Jadore (by Bremore Artist) to an undisclosed buyer. Described by Stephen Illingworth as ‘the complete modern Limousin with size, length, style and shape’ her show titles to date have included Reserve Supremes at the 2013 Royal Highland, Great Yorkshire & Black Isle Grand Prix respectively.
15,000gns was the price paid for the stock bull Glenrock Humdinger (lot 61). Born in November 2012, he is sired by the noted French bull, Sympa, and is out of Glenrock Spangle. He had previously won Best Young Bull in the 2013 North West Limousin Club Herd Competition.
With a 14,000gns price tag was Glenrock Inclusive (lot 37) selling to David Green’s Derriaghy Herd. November 2011-born, she is by Bremore Artist and another out of the noted Glenrock Spangle.
Taking a combined bid of 13,000gns was the cow and calf unit of Glenrock Cellest who sold for 7,000gns to Andrew Ewing and thereafter her heifer calf Glenrock Ingenue who sold as an ‘A’ lot for 6,000gns. Glenrock Cellest is a 2007-born cow by Ronick Hawk and out of Glenrock Juniper. Ingenue is a September-born daughter of Goldies Comet.
Glenrock Fantasia made 5,000gns and her calf Glenrock India 7,500gns to realise a total sum of 12,500gns. Fantasia is by Bremore Artist and is out of Glenrock Caprice. The rising yearling heifer Glenrock India sold for 7,500gns being sired by Swarland Eddie.
Lot 46 Glenrock Horizon was purchased for 11,000gns. Born in December 2012, this classy young heifer is by Goldies Comet and out of Glenrock Eternal.
Securing a final bid of 10,000gns to Mr Bradley, N Ireland was lot 20 Glenrock Elusive, a 2009-born Wilodge Vantastic daughter and out of Glenrock Caprice who earlier had earlier made 4,500gns. Glenrock Elusive went under the hammer with her heifer calf at foot Glenrock Joyous by Mistic Gucci.
Youngstock was also an excellent trade with Glenrock Imperial (lot 35), a yearling bull calf born in August 2013 making 6,000gns being by Spangle and out of Haltcliffe Vermount, making him a full brother to Glenrock Fantastic. Sold with his recipient dam was the seven-month-old bull calf Glenrock Inferno who was knocked down for 5,800gns. In the heifers, the similarly-aged Glenrock Idaho (Bremore Artist x Glenrock Spangle) was snapped up for 7,000gns when selling with her recipient dam.
