The annual summer bull sale held on June 24th at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw strong demand and a solid average of £6,555 per head. Despite a smaller selection buyers due to the hot weather conditions, more bulls were sold on the previous year with fourteen bulls selling away to breeders seeking strong bulls ready to work.
Top price for the day was Lot 32, Goldies Aero, selling for 10,000gns. Bred by Bruce T Goldie, Dumfries and Galloway, this January 2025 born bull has a myostatin of F94L/NT821 and with a beef value of 51 he is firmly in the top 10% of the breed. He is sired by Burnbank Sergeant, and out of a Goldies Orinocco daughter, Goldies Truffle. Aero was purchased by commercial producers Messrs Reed, Bishop Auckland, Durham.
Next top price, went to lot 12, Ringway Vatanen, who sold to 8,500 gns. He was bred by P J Henshall, Dumfries and Galloway. Vatanen is sired by the popular Knock Msport and has a double F94L myostatin. He also has a beef value of LM48 and is in the top 10% for the breed. Vatanen headed home to Messrs Chapman & Son, Kendal, Cumbria.
Also attracting strong interest was lot 25, Fieldson VAT, from Messrs J W & M C Fieldson, Lincolnshire. This December 2024 born bull was purchased for 8,000gns by Messrs Annett & Son, Morpeth, Northumberland for their Widdrington pedigree herd. VAT is sired by Glenrock Redemption and carries double F94L myostatin.
Next up is lot 7, Fairywater Viz, bred by Mr J A Ewing, Dumfries and Galloway and sold for 7,200 gns. This May 2024 born bull carries a myostatin of F94L/Q204X. He headed home to commercial producers Messrs Bellas & Son, Barnard Castle, County Durham.
