Maraiscote Tangerine and Maraiscote Urprincess
Limousin have proven a huge presence at The Great Yorkshire show this July. A superb selection of Limousin entries made the judging of the classes no easy task and top spots were secured across the board in the Individual, Pairs, Teams and Commercial championships.
The Limousin Classes were judged by Keith Redpath, Kelso, Roxburghshire, who tapped out his top girls at the show on Wednesday 10th July 2024. Taking the top spot this year was the unstoppable Maraiscote Tangerine, owned and bred by Messrs J Nimmo and shown on the day, as she has all season, by Sophie Harvey.
Maraiscote Tangerine
The 25-month-old Tangerine was crowned Female and Overall Champion at the Royal Highland Show in June and has continued her reign at the Great Yorkshire Show a month later. Described by many as ‘perfectly Limousin’ her winning streak continued into the inter-breed beef classes on the Thursday where she was picked as Supreme Beef Champion by judge Mr B Birch, Weston, Staffordshire.
Tangerine is by the renowned bull Morhan Peter, sired by Plumtree Fantastic, who was bred by Brian Moroney, Quilty, Co Clare. She is out of homebred Maraiscote Orange who goes back to the 50,000gns Bassingfield Machoman. Entered for the royal Welsh in a few weeks’ time, we will hopefully see her there to compete for the triple honours.

Keith’s pick for the Female Reserve Champion was also tapped out as the Overall Reserve Champion, Maraiscote Urprincess, also bred by Messrs J Nimmo and handled by Thomas Illingworth. Congratulations goes to the Nimmo family for securing the top spots throughout the showing classes across this show and the Royal Highland previously, an exceptional achievement.
Maraiscote Urprincess
Urprincess, a young heifer of 14 months, shares the same sire has Tangerine, Morhan Peter and is out of Maraiscote Nellie. Urprincess carries the double F94L gene. One to watch in the future as she goes home with the Junior Inter-breed beef honours at this year’s show.
Also hot on the heels of championship successes at the Royal Highland this year was Garrowby Tarzan who took the overall Male Championship. Exhibited by Mr R Graham, this 26-month-old bull, sired by Grahams Rooney and out of Gunnerfleet Nacian was purchased at the October bull sales for 12,000gns from breeders Garrowby Farm, Bugthorpe, Yorkshire.

Tarzan’s runner up was Junior Male Champion Whinfellpark Upperclass , from A W Jenkinson Farms, a Foxhillfarm Jasper son out of homebred Whinfellpark Redruby. Upperclass also enjoyed a run of Championships at the Royal Highland recently, scooping the Junior Bull and Reserve Overall Male Championships back in June.

Messrs J S Cooper of the Tomschoice herd had two 2023 animals in the rosettes. The Reserve Junior Female was Tomschoice Ultraviolet, a January born heifer by Fieldson Ramos and out of Tomschoice Orange. Tomschoice Undercover claimed two prizes, Reserve Junior Male Champion and Best animal exhibited by a North East Limousin Breeders Club member. This February born bull is by Fieldson Ramos out of Tomschoice Novel.

In the wider classes, Limousin Dominated the week with wins across the Team, Pairs and Commercial championships.

Interbreed Junior Champion – Maraiscote Urprincess
The inter-breed senior team included Maraiscote Tangerine, the Garrowby Tarzan, who claimed male champion, 4-year-old Grahams Ruth, the supreme champion at RWAS 2023 as well as the overall interbreed champion and interbreed pair champion at RHS 2023. The final member of the team of 4 was Ritchies Treasure also owned by R & J Graham, a 23-month-old, first prize winning female.
