The annual bull sale held on June 25th at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw strong demand and a solid average of £8,458 per head—an impressive £2,705 increase on the 2024 figure. A total of nine bulls were presented, all ready to head straight out to work.

Top price for the day was Lot 5 Wanthwaite Unbreakable, who sold for 11,000gns presented by T W Bell & Son based in Keswick, Cumbria. This September 2023-born bull has double F94L myostatin. He is sired by Cloughhead Lord and out of the Grahams Samson daughter, Wanthwaite Abba. Unbreakable was purchased by J & J M Sisson & Sons, he had a short journey home to Penrith, Cumbria.

Next up selling for 10,000gns was Lot 1 Ringway Umbro brought forward by Mr P J Henshall based in Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway. Umbro is sired by the herds stock bull Millington Langton, who was purchased in 2016 for 5,000gns, and out of the homebred cow Ringway Nesta. Born April 2023, Umbro was snapped up by N McGill & Co, Newton Stewart.

Also selling for 10,000gns was Lot 11 Strawfrank Underwood bought by H S Mactier & Son, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. Born December 2023, Underwood has F94L/NT821 myostatin. Presented by Allan Campbell, Carstairs Junction, Lanark, Underwood is sired by Westpit Oklahoma and out of the Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Strawfrank Polly. He has a beef value of LM46, which is in the top 10% for the breed.

Also attracting strong interest was Lot 19 Glenrock Vegas, presented by Mr S & Mr T Illingworth of Lockerbie. This January 2024-born bull was purchased for 8,000gns by D W Youngson of the Ythanvale Pedigree Limousin herd, based in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Vegas carries F94L/NT821 myostatin and has an exceptional beef value of LM52, putting him in the top 1% for the breed. He is sired by Woodmarsh Royalmint and out of the homebred cow Glenrock Minx.
