Buyers flocked in their droves to McCartneys Livestock Mart, Brecon on Saturday 9th May for the Premier Show and Sale of bulls and females. Following strong trade and 97% clearance rates at the society sales in Carlisle and Stirling in the previous week, demand continued to remain high. The majority of animals sold to commercial enterprises with buyers making confident and strategic breeding choices to add value to their herds.
With 39% more bulls sold on the year, clearance rates remained high to meet demand, with buyers having a selection of quality bulls available at very affordable prices.

Leading the day at 14,000gns was Lot 29 Ashledge Vancy from Messrs A G Kirton and Sons, Kinlet, Bewdley. Earlier in the day Ashledge Vancy had been crowned overall champion in the pre-sale show under the watchful eye of judge Matthew Clark, Sheffield. This powerful bull is sired by the homebred sire, Ashledge Storm. Vancy, born September 2024, has double F94L myostatin and a top 10% Beef Value of LM47. He now heads to Chesham, Buckinghamshire with W.J and M Mash for their Brockhurst pedigree Limousin herd.

Commenting after the sale, Matthew commented, “I would like to thank the British Limousin Cattle Society for the opportunity to judge at this sale. There was a great selection of bulls to suit both commercial and pedigree breeders. My champion is a powerful bull with great style and presence. He caught my eye as soon as he walked into the ring. I would like to commend the vendors for bringing forward a quality show of animals.”

The next leading price for the day at 10,000gns was Lot 27 Ashledge Viaduct, again from the Kirton family. This September 2024-born bull was sired by Ashledge Storm, the same sire as the champion and top priced animal. Viaduct has double F94L myostatin and a top 1% Beef Value of LM71 coupled with top 1% 200 and 400 day growth traits. He caught the eye of F T Bedell and Sons, Bishops Castle, Shropshire for their Wintles pedigree Limousin herd. The Kirton’s had a very successful day with five bulls forward for sale averaging £9,513.

Earlier in the sale at 9,000gns was Lot 7 Nealford Voodoo from Mr J H Neale and Sons, Cornwall. This April 2024-born bull has double F94L myostatin and was one of the first sons to be offered by Ampertaine Superstition, who was purchased for 27,000gns. He is out of the homebred cow Nealford Orla, a Ampertaine Lieutenant daughter. He now heads home with commercial producers A Eggins, Plymouth.
Closely followed at 8,200gns was Lot 36 Dyfri Vortex from Messrs D G and M J Edwards, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire. He was one of three bulls forward from the herd which averaged £8,120. This long powerful power has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM42. Vortex, born October 2024, is sired by the French bull Narko and out of the Fenomen daughter, Dyfri Peron. He now heads to commercial producers A G Smout and Co, Brecon.

Three bulls hit 8,000gns. The first was Lot 12 Foxhillfarm Victory from Mr and Mrs M Alford, Cullompton, Devon. This Ampertaine Elgin son had earlier been tapped out as senior champion and reserve overall champion in the pre-sale show. Victory, born June 2024, is out of the homebred cow Foxhillfarm Natasha and has double F94L myostatin. He has a Beef Value of LM34. He caught the eye of online buyer D J Evans from the Lovetium pedigree Limousin herd, Tregaron, Ceredigion.
Following close behind at 8,000gns was Lot 15 Dyfri Vagrant from Messrs D G and M J Edwards. Sired by the French bull Ouistiti, he has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM42. Born July 2024, he is out of the Hirohito daughter, Dyfri Romance. Vagrant was snapped up by commercial producers Davies and James, Llandrindod Wells.
The last at 8,000gns was Lot 25, Woodmarsh Viscount from M and J C Gould Ltd, Shrewsbury. The September 2024-born bull is out of the homebred cow Woodmarsh Puregold. Viscount has double F94L myostatin and positive growth traits, he has a Beef Value of LM44. This stylish Ampertaine Majestic son heads off to work in the Monaughty pedigree Limousin herd of Mr and Mrs C and S Thomas, Knighton, Powys.

Lot 11 Ashledge Vandal sold for 7,800gns from A G Kirton and Sons, Kinlet, Bewdley to S M F and C N Wozencraft and Son, Llandrindod Wells, Powys.
Lot 20 Dyfri Volcano sold for 7,000gns from D G and M J Edwards and Son, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire to E H R Hamer and Son, Brecon, Powys.
Lot 23 Ashledge Volunteer sold for 7,000gns from A G Kirton and Sons, Kinlet, Bewdley to P Jones and Co, Brecon, Powys.
Lot 41 Woodmarsh Volvo sold for 7,000gns from M and J C Gould Ltd, Shrewsbury to J A Wrench, Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire.

A total of 13 females were presented for sale achieving an average of £4,191.25 and a clearance of 92%.
M J and J M Price of the Beulah Limousins, Builth Wells, Powys presented 10 females for sale achieving an average of £4126.50.
Top price female was Lot 47 Beulah Songbird selling for 6,000gns from M J and J M Price. Born August 2021, she is sired by Claragh Neymar and out of the homebred cow Beulah Melody. Songbird has F94L/Q204X myostatin and was sold with her November 2025-born bull calf at foot Beulah Al, a Beulah Sportsmans son. She was also sold back in calf to Beulah Sportsman. Songbird sang sweet melodies to Blaenpant Farm Ltd, who took her home to Llechryd, Cardigan.
E E Davies and Co of the Pistyll pedigree Limousiin herd, Aberdyfi, Gwynedd bought Lot 46 Beulah Supreme for 5,800gns from M J and J M Price. She is an April 2021-born cow with heifer calf at foot, Beulah Asusie, who is sired by Beulah Sportsman. Supreme has double F94L myostatin and is a Foxhillfarm Lordofthering daughter. She is out of the homebred cow Beulah Jive. She was sold back in calf to Beulah Sportsman.
Selling for 5,200gns was Lot 49 Beulah Ulrika from M J and J M Price. She is a June 2023-born heifer, sired by Goldies Northstar and out of Beulah Otty, a Gunnerfleet Hicks daughter. Ulrika has double F94L myostatin and sells with her January 2026-born heifer calf Beulah Beauty, who is sired by Barrons Major. She is sold in calf to Beulah Sportsman and heads home with C L and F E Jerman from the Glangwden pedigree Limousin herd, Caersws, Powys.
