  • Goldies Adonis clinches National Limousin Calf Show Championship

Borderway Agri Expo, held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, is one of the UK’s leading autumn agricultural and livestock events, bringing together pedigree and commercial livestock breeders from across the country. Attracting thousands of visitors and featuring approximately 800 cattle and sheep entries, the event has firmly established itself as a major fixture in the agricultural show calendar.

Limousin genetics featured prominently throughout the day, with Limousin-bred cattle dominating the top honours in the commercial cattle competitions and demonstrating the breed’s continued commercial appeal.

Supreme commercial cattle champion, Hotstepper, from the Vance family.

Under the watchful eye of judge Boomer Birch, the supreme commercial cattle championship was awarded to the Vance family of Whithorn, Newton Stewart, with their homebred heifer, Hotstepper. Weighing 648kg, this impressive heifer is sired by Maraiscote Regis and is now destined for Livescot at the end of November.

Reserve supreme commercial cattle champion, Fizz, from Hannah Donaldon.

Following closely behind was Fizz, exhibited by Hannah Donaldson. This Limousin-sired heifer followed Hotstepper through the female championship to secure reserve female champion. Weighing 598kg, Fizz will now be retained for breeding.

Limousin breeding was also strongly represented in the steer section and baby beef championship. Taking reserve steer champion honours was Lin Calcraft with her homebred steer, Full Hammer, sired by Uptonley Livingthedream. He now heads to Agri South West.

Agri Expo 2026 Baby Beef Championship.

Limousin cattle continued their success in the highly competitive baby beef championship, judged by Balfour Baillie. Champion honours went to Edwards Bros & TE & FM Edwards with Buzz Ball. This stylish heifer calf is sired by Goldies Sensible, a son of Goldies Torpedo. Having previously claimed the baby beef championship at North East Live, she will be retained for further showing next summer.

Reserve baby beef champion was Rocky Boy, exhibited by Zoe Hall, who had earlier won the Baby continental steer class. He is sired by Impulsive Phoenix , who was also the sire of a commercial heifer that made 15,000gns Carlisle March 2025.

Inaugural National Pedigree Limousin Calf Show

A major highlight of this year’s event was the inaugural National Pedigree Limousin Calf Show, which attracted an outstanding entry of top-quality young cattle and provided a fantastic showcase for the depth of breeding within the Limousin breed.

The classes were kindly sponsored by smaXtec, a proven cow health monitoring system which helps farmers keep a closer eye on herd health, supporting early detection of potential health issues and smarter herd management.

Overall Limousin champion Goldies Adonis from the Goldies family.

The male championship and overall championship were awarded to the Goldies family of Dumfries with Goldies Adonis. This powerful young bull is sired by Goldies Torpedo, who previously sold for 32,000gns at Carlisle, and is out of the Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Goldies Joyeuse.

Joyeuse has established herself as a prolific breeding female within the Goldies herd, having also produced Goldies Upperclass, who claimed the overall championship at Carlisle in May 2025 before selling for 18,000gns.

Born in July 2025, Adonis combines impressive pedigree credentials with outstanding performance figures. He boasts growth EBVs in the top 1% of the breed and a Beef Value of LM57, also placing him within the top 1%.

Reserve overall champion Grahams Anders from the Grahams family.

Following him through the male championship to take reserve overall champion was Grahams Anders, exhibited by the Grahams family. Born in November 2025, this impressive son of Foxhillfarm Ourbest, is out of the Claragh Franco daughter, Grahams Precious.

Precious is another prolific breeding female, being the dam of Grahams Unexpected, who topped the 2025 Red Ladies Sale at Carlisle, selling for 20,000gns.

Anders boasts a Beef Value of LM54, placing him in the top 1% of the breed, alongside growth traits also within the top 1%. He carries the NT821/Q204X myostatin combination.

Judge Mr Thomas Illingworth of the Glenrock Limousin herd based in Lockerbie.

Judge for the day was Mr Thomas Illingworth of the Glenrock Limousin herd based in Lockerbie. Thomas, who has enjoyed considerable success this summer in the show ring, commented “The Agri Expo was a fantastic event, expertly organised by Borderway Mart. The quality of calves on display was excellent, and I’m confident we’ll see entries continue to grow year on year.”

The female championship was awarded to Seisiog Annie, born in October 2025. Sired by Seisiog Rio, she is out of the Grahams Lorenzo daughter, Wilodge Opulent. Annie is a full sister to Seisiog Ace, who claimed the overall championship at Carlisle in October 2026 before selling for 10,000gns. She carries the Q204X/Q204X myostatin combination.

Taking reserve female champion honours was Goldies Bella, exhibited by the Goldies family. Born in April 2026, she is sired by Ampertaine Majestic and out of the Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Goldies Melody. Bella carries the F94L/Q204X myostatin combination and boasts performance figures within the top 10% of the breed.

Young Handlers

Two Young Handlers classes provided an excellent opportunity for the next generation of Limousin breeders to showcase their stockmanship, presentation skills and knowledge of their animals.

The junior young handlers class was won by Serena Speakman, while Thomas Goldies took the senior young handlers title.

Congratulations to both winners and to all those who took part. Their enthusiasm and ability are a credit to the breed and provide great encouragement for the future of the Limousin industry.

The inaugural National Pedigree Limousin Calf Show proved to be a tremendous addition to the Borderway Agri Expo programme, providing an excellent platform to showcase the quality within the breed and the dedication of breeders from across the country.
