NORTHERN IRELAND LIMOUSIN CARCASE COMPETITION

Sponsors and Judge pay tribute to the high quality entries

The Annual Limousin Carcase competition, held this year at Linden Foods at Dungannon, attracted a big entry and Judge Mr Terry White from LMC, together with Mr Willie Waugh, from Linden Foods and Mr David Workman, Head of Northern Bank Agribusiness, who were joint sponsors of the event, commented on the excellence of the carcases forward and congratulated the Northern Ireland Limousin Cattle Club on the management of the event.

The competition was well supported with entries from right across Northern Ireland and the quality of carcases on show in each of the five classes left no doubt in the minds of all concerned of the rightness of Limousins being named “The Carcase Breed”. There were classes for light heifers and heavy heifers, for light and heavy steers and a class for young bulls. There was an understandable condition that all animals presented for slaughter had to be Limousin or Limousin/cross.

The judge for the day was Mr Terry White, LMC Classification Manager, and with such quality on offer he faced a tremendous task in placing the entrants in the classes and in selecting the ultimate winners of the Championship and Reserve Awards. The Northern Bank had generously sponsored the first prize award in each class while Linden Foods sponsored the Champion and Reserve prizes. Club Chairman, Mr Bryan McElroy, when welcoming all who attended the event and congratulating the winners, expressed his thanks to Mr White for judging the carcases and said that we were once again deeply indebted to Linden Foods for facilitating the Club with the use of the premises and for their financial sponsorship. He reminded those present of the continuing interest the Northern Bank had in the Club’s affairs, mentioning their support in last year’s competition and said that a special word of thanks needed to be said to Mr David Workman, Head of the Bank’s Agribusiness and Mr Marcus McCollum, an Agribusiness Manager for not only assisting with the funding but also for their willingness to have a “hands on” presence at the Club’s events. A well-attended show of the carcases, some 70% of which had been graded E’s and U’s, and the prize distribution, brought the proceedings to a close.
