Limousin Champion Sets Bentham Market Record

Bentham Auction saw a new centre record price for Store Cattle of £2,120 achieved at the Great Annual March Show & Sale of Store Cattle held on Tuesday 2nd March 2010.

An entry of 38 quality show cattle were presented before judges Mr William Ketley of Colchester and Mr John McAlister of Falkirk, with both judges praising the quality of stock.

Best Young Handler Overall was Edward Hird who was presented with the Capontree Veterinary Practice Silver Salver.
Bentham Champion and a Bentham record price of £2,100

In the Championship line-up it was Graham Jackson of Bentham with his 1st prize Senior Heifer that was tapped forward by judge, Mr William Ketley, to be the Overall Champion. This 15 month Limousin Heifer was bred by M&W Richardson of Buttermere and is out of their stock bull Hudscales Volvo.

For the first time Bentham, with the generous support of the NW Limousin Club, were able to present special prizes to the best Limousin sired Heifer and Steer. The Heifer prize was awarded to Graham Jackson’s Champion with the Steer prize going to David & Maggie Kelly of Nether Hall Farms for their 10 month Limousin Steer bred by Fieldson Alfy.

A packed ringside saw the Champion knocked down for the centre record price of £2,120 with the successful bidder being Mr Ian Pickup of Great Harwood. The Limousin Steer Champion was purchased by the pre-sale judge Mr William Ketley for £1,100.
