The Overall Champion & Reserve bulls shared the top price of 4,200gns at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Spring Show & Sale held at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart on 28th March 2011. The sale saw 20 bulls average £2,520 with 9 females making £1,720 apiece with averages for both up slightly on the year.

Joint trade leaders at 4,200gns were Eniver Eoin and Culnagechan Engineer respectively. Judge John Adams, Fedney House, Shot Lane, Banbridge praised both leading prices in terms of their width, shape and muscle. Overall Male and Intermediate Champion was Eniver Eoin, an August 2009 born bull consigned by Mr M McKeefry, Carhill Road, Garvagh, Coleraine. A powerful Ampertaine Abracadabra son and out of the homebred Ronick Hawk daughter, Eniver Alice, he carried a Beef Value of LM+41 placing him squarely in the Top 1% of performance-recorded Limousins. Purchasers were Messrs M & I Robinson, Ballyleany, Richhill.

Also fetching the same price of 4,200gns was the Reserve Overall Male and Junior Male Champion Culnagechan Engineer bought forward by Mr D Hume, Maghereagh Road, Randalstown. Another AI son of the prolific 29,000gns Ampertaine Abracadabra, this September 2009 born bull is out of Kype Viva, a Waverbank Nassau daughter. A strong Beef Value (LM+29) combined with good calving figures (LM0C) to convince new owner D McCann, Castlewellan.

Next best was the Senior Male Champion, Madden Espoir, who realised 3,000gns for vendor Mr A Graham, Tandragee. A Rocky son and out of Madden Annabelle, a cow with good breeding lines including Greensons Gigolo and Ocean, this rising 22-month-old bull sold to D McBeth, New Buildings. Also making 3,000gns was Aghadolgan Eric, forward from Mr RAG Savage, Blakes Road, Articlave, Castlerock. A Glenrock Ventura son and out of the homebred Aghadolgan Vivette, a Ronick Iceman granddaughter, this September born bull heads to J Kerr, Coleraine.

A solid female trade was topped at 3,100gns by the Female Champion, Erne Ely, brought forward by Mr R Crawford, Rathkeeland, Maguiresbridge. April 2009 born, this elegant heifer is an embryo calf sired by Haltcliffe Olympus and out of a dam imported from France, Tour. She was sold for 3,100gns to purchaser G Hazley, Portadown.

Lynderg Estelle, the Female Reserve Champion brought forward by Mr J Quail, Northwood, Tullyear, Banbridge made 3,000gns. Sired by Guards Boomer, and continuing his string of recent successes, this stylish February 2009 born heifer is out of the Ocean daughter, Lynderg Babs when going under the hammer to R Boyd, Drumquinn.
