Terrace bull tops Cockermouth at 5,000gns

On Friday 11th March 2011 at Cockermouth, Mitchells held their Second Annual Sale of Pedigree Limousin Bulls & Females where 54 head were forward for the sale sponsored by Robinsons Accountants, Workington.

Topping the bulls at 5,000gns was Terrace Excalibur from Ian Armstrong, Terrace Farm, Lorton when purchased by Thomas Whiteford, Tercrosset Farm, Brampton. This August 2009 bull is by Maraiscote Benny, a Tyddyn Mei son, and is out of the home bred dam, Terrace Betty. A large crowd had gathered to see a quality entry of both bulls and females, with interest very strong.

Leading the heifer trade was an August 2009 born heifer from Mark Harryman, Keskadale, Keswick. Sired by Linarn Unique, she sold for 4,000gns to Stephen Milligan. Overall, the Keskadale run of heifers averaged £2,119.

The Limousin Sale coincided with Cockermouth’s fortnightly sale of store cattle, feeding cows, calves and stirks with 706 head forward. Steers peaked at £1,045 for a Limousin from Stoneyhowe; with other Limousins at £985 & £975 from East Farm; and 6 at £940 from Croft House. Limousin store heifers reached £945 from Whinns Farm; £885 from High Nook; and £870 from Stoneyhowe. Topping the feeding cow market was a Limousin at £905 from East Farm.
