Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report hosting their first South West Autumn Multi Breed Show & Sale of Pedigree Continental Cattle at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Bridgwater on 4th October 2011.

The British Limousin breed was in the vanguard, headed by Nick & Lisa Hill, Decoy Pool Farm, Nyland, Cheddar, Somerset who conducted a major reduction of their Quaish Herd.

Quaish Daisy, an outstanding October 2008 born heifer, by Quaish Bingo and out of Brickhill Starburst, topped at £5,250 and was sold PD’d in calf to Wilodge Explosion. This upstanding heifer, full of breed characteristics, was purchased by Woodside Farm Partners, Bristol.

Next best was an 8 month bull calf from Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler, Goodiford Mill, Kentisbeare, Devon with Rosecroft George who took first prize in the Suckled Bull Calf Class and was Reserve Male Champion overall. By Objat and out of Mr & Mrs Wheeler’s show winning cow Rosecroft Versace, he was knocked down at £4,200 to Messrs WA Waterman & Son of Dorchester.

The Limousin breed also headed the mature bull trade at £3,675 with Sloughpool Francis bred by Messrs CR & MM Gollop & Sons, Slough Pool, Halberton Road, Willand,Devon. March 2010 born with an EBV in the top 1% of the breed, Francis was secured by Mr N Rottenbury of South Molton.

Nick and Lisa Hill then featured again with Quaish Fanfare, a May 10 bull by the highly respected sire Clydevalley Arty. Having previously had a successful show season and already served cows, Fanfare achieved £3,307.50 and went to Mr IJ Harris of Radstock.

The best prices for cows and calves came from the Quaish reduction at £3,150 for Quaish Cinq. This January 09 Grange Valparaiso daughter, with an April 11 Guards Deputydog bull calf at foot, was snapped up by Messrs A & CMA Lampey of Chard. £2,887.50 was bid for Quaish Bornfree, another Valparaiso daughter (December 06) with her Deputydog (April 11) bull calf at foot.

Maiden heifers peaked at £2,940 for Nick and Lisa’s show heifer Quaish Forgetmenot. By Columbpark Archers, born June 10 out of Quaish Co was bought by Mr SJS Loveless of Bridport. AnotherLimousinmaiden heifer this time from Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler, Rosecroft Francesca, sold particularly well at £2782.50 and was bought by Mr GN Dunn, Okehampton.
