The Major Reduction Sale on behalf of the pedigree Limousin Harrison Herd of Mr DW Harrison, School House Farm, Priestcliffe, Taddington, Derbys, held at Newark Livestock Market on Saturday 10th March 2012, saw a strong sale throughout hit a top of 10,000gns for the maiden heifer, Harrison Famela.  With a depth of breeding, the January 2010 born Famela is by the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the Nenuphar daughter, Harrison Amela.  Buying the top price were Messrs E&J Sims, Edgefields Farm, Edgefields Lane, Stockton Brook, Staffs who run the Simse pedigree Limousin Herd. The same purchaser had earlier paid 7,000gns for another maiden heifer, Harrison Florence, again sired by Wilodge Vantastic, but this time out of Harrison Chunky, a daughter of the French bull Junior.

Harrison Florence 7,000gns

With buyers in attendance from North East Scotland to South West England, the sale met with a lively trade for all categories of stock forward.  A feature throughout the catalogue and the sale were animals with breeding of the prolific Limousin bull, Wilodge Vantastic.  This was further underlined at the end of the day with 4 straws of Vantastic semen selling at 800gns per straw to Swalesmoor Farms of Eaglesfield, Lockerbie.

Leading the bull trade at 8,500gns was the three-year-old stock bull, Harrison Duke, a “strong, upstanding bull with excellent conformation who has left some tremendous calves,” according to auctioneer Paul Gentry. Again by Wilodge Vantastic, Harrison Duke is out of Harrison Petunia, a Broadmeadows Cannon granddaughter. New owner is Mr CR Bustance, Wimberley Hall Farm, Stonegate Weston, Spaldings, Lincs who runs the Moulton prefix.

A full sister to Harrison Duke and the first calf into the ring, the seven-month-old Harrison Gracie, realised 3,300gns when snapped up by the Withersdale Herd of Mr DC Wharton, Willow Farm, Mendham, Harleston, Suffolk. This heifer calf represented the ninth calf born to the aforementioned 1999-born cow, Harrison Petunia.

Representing an excellent return on investment and securing the next leading price of 5,500gns was the August 2008-born stock bull, Coachhouse Detail, who had been purchased from breeders Messrs Heald, Notts at the Newark Limousin Day in April 2010 for 5,000gns. Coachhouse Detail is by the Fedneyhouse Nelson son, Coachhouse Virgil, and is out of Coachhouse Tandolph, a Haltcliffe Picasso daughter. Going under the hammer with a Beef Value of LM+30, he was bought by W Mallon Livestock, Dereham, Norfolk.

5,000gns was the figure paid for the January 2009 born first calver, Harrison Ellen, who was sold with her February born heifer calf at foot, Harrison Helen. Harrison Ellen is once more Vantastic-sired, and is out of Harrison Begonia who carries Ocean and Ronick Hawk bloodlines. Her February born calf, Harrison Helen, is sired by Harrison Duke and this unit was purchased by AJ & SD Heath, Eaton House, Eaton Upon Tern, Market Drayton for their Ternvalley Herd.

The next lot in the ring was the similarly-aged Harrison Eureka who followed at 4,200gns. Again by Vantastic, she is out of the Ocean daughter, Harrison Bosenah, and sold with her Duke-sired heifer calf at foot to RA Willson and Son, Louth. The May 2009-born Harrison Ebony was next best at 3,900gns when knocked down with her Harrison Duke-sired bull calf at foot to JB Thompson, Stainby.  She is by the homebred sire, Harrison Boyo, and is out of the Nabil daughter Grange Stephanotis.

A final bid of 3,800gns on behalf of P Gottschalk, Waltham Abbey, Essex then secured Harrison Danielle, May 2008-born, and by the French-bred sire Ionesco. She is out of Grange Stephanotis, and sold with her Duke-sired bull calf at foot, Harrison Hugo. Heading to the same home at 3,600gns was the April 2008-born Harrison Duchess, a Charleston Venetian daughter, and out Harrison Umela, by Fedneyhouse Nelson.

Another at 3,800gns was Harrison Estelle, an April 2009-born daughter of the French sire Stop, and out of the Broadmeadows Cannon granddaughter, Harrison Tasha. She sold with the Harrison Duke heifer calf at foot, Harrison Heidi, to S Padfield, Driffield, E Yorks.

The yearling bull calf, Harrison Gentry, realised 2,200gns to JB Gilbert, Coventry. This one is by the AI sire, Rocky, and is out of the Sable granddaughter Roughley Dixie.
