The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) Breeders’ Reduction Sale on behalf of the Dinmore Herd of Mr P Dawes saw a top price of 36,000gns for Dinmore Fabulous, a June 2010 born maiden heifer, when going under the hammer to Mr D Sawrij of Swalesmoor Farms, Allerbeck Farm, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie. A very strong trade reflected the continued demand for Limousin genetics which saw this sale gross £492,030 or £4,241 per head for the 116 lots sold.

Overall in 2012 to date, official BLCS Breeders’ Sales have now grossed £2,149,105. This, when combined with the on-going figure of £3,089,395 for BLCS Collective Sales, means total Limousin sales are rapidly closing in on the 2011 record total of £7.3 Million.

Held on-farm at Dinmore Manor Estate, Hereford through Newark Livestock Market on Saturday 7th July 2012, the sale comprised 98 pedigree head together with recipients carrying embryo calves, frozen embryos and crossbred cows, and offered buyers the opportunity to purchase stock from some of the leading bloodlines of the Limousin breed.

Six animals in all made five figures or over with a further fourteen animals making 5,000gns or more. New customers competed with existing breeders which saw stock heading to all the home countries as well as Northern & Southern Ireland.

Leading the trade with a 36,000gns price tag was the maiden heifer Dinmore Fabulous, a daughter of the in-demand sire, Wilodge Vantastic, and out of the Rubis-sired Carmorn Voney, twice Limousin and Interbreed Champion at the Royal Ulster Show. Dinmore Fabulous is full sister to Dinmore Elegance who was first in her class at the both the Royal Welsh and National Limousin Show in 2011. With a Beef Value of LM+44, she now heads to Scotland to the Swalesmoor prefix of Mr Sawrij.

Realising 26,000gns to the same buyer was a cow and calf outfit comprising the 2008 born Dinmore Dena, by the French sire Oxygene and out of the noted show cow Dinmore Athena, together with her Carmorn Copilot-sired heifer calf at foot, Dinmore Gavina. Dena was sold back in calf to either the AI sire Ronick Hawk or to the stock bull Procters Duvalier. Breeding very well in the herd, Duvalier was purchased for 20,000gns at Carlisle in October 2009 where he stood Reserve Intermediate Champion, being a son of the 100,000gns Haltcliffe Vermount. Mr Sawrij took home a further seven pedigree lots, five crossbred cows as well as the top-priced frozen embryos, two Wilodge Vantastic x Carmorn Voney matings at 2,600gns each.

This was for Dinmore Foxy who is by Procters Duvalier and is out of Dinmore Caprice, a granddaughter of Wilodge Priceless. Establishing a new Limousin herd, Mr Walters bought five lots here encompassing a variety of top bloodlines. These included the 7,000gns Dinmore Ganda (by Procters Duvalier); the 6,000gns Dinmore Fragrance (by Homebyres Visitor and out of Carmorn Voney); and the 5,200gns Dinmore Fancygem (by Procters Commander and out of the 11,500gns Wilodge Littlegem, granddam to the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus).

She is full sister to Dinmore Daffodil, Reserve Female Champion 2011 National Limousin Show. Purchasers were GJ Lee & CM Lloyd of the Calogale Limousin herd, Ger-Y-Coed, Four Roads, Kidwelly, Carms. Carrying a Beef Value of LM+33 he heads to Yeomans & Partners, Llwyn-Y-Brain, Adfa, Newtown, Powys for their Llwynybrain Herd.

The stock bull Hafodlas Cymro secured a final bid of 7,000gns when knocked down to S & M Edwards & Son, Court House, Byton, Presteigne, Powys. Bred by AH & GW Roberts, Cymro is by the 42,000gns Cloughhead Umpire and is out of Hafodlas Sali, by the Cannon son, Hafodlas Llion. Cymro had been purchased by the Dinmore Herd in December 2007 at the Carlisle Weaned Calf Sale for 6,200gns.

Back to the females, it was the Fleethill Sal daughter, Dinmore Forgetmenot, who was purchased for 7,000gns, being an in-calf heifer by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic. The 17,000gns Fleethill Sal was purchased for the herd at Red Ladies in November 2004, having stood Reserve Supreme at the Royal Welsh earlier that year. She sold with a Beef Value of LM+40 having run with the junior herd sire and French-bred Franki, a grandson of Nenuphar and out of a dam by Dauphin (sire of both Jacot and Objat). The same purchasers had earlier bought the 4,500gns two-year-old heifer Dinmore Fudge, by Wilodge Tonka and out of Dinmore Sugar – who goes back to the show cow Lumbylaw Vinny.

The five-month-old heifer calf, Dinmore Hester, was next best at 6,800gns when sold suckling her recipient dam. A run of three identically–bred May 2009 born embryo calves (by Wilodge Tonka and out of the Sarkley Nellie daughter Newstart Uptowngirl) made 6500gns, 4000gns and 3800gns respectively. Top at 6,500gns was Dinmore Esme, who sold with her Procters Duvalier-sired heifer calf at foot, Dinmore Hope, and back in calf to the same sire.
