The All-Ireland Heifer and Bull Derby 2012 is ready for Elphin Show, Co Roscommon on Saturday, 1st September with this year’s hosts the Irish Limousin Society.

The event had been revamped earlier this year when members of both the NI Limousin Cattle Club and the Irish Limousin Society agreed to change the format with entries going straight to the final, without the need for qualifying shows, with each category split into two classes with a Championship for both.

This new format there has garnered a tremendous level of support from breeders with a total of 56 entries split into the 4 classes.  Both the bull and heifer entries boast exceptional breeding lines from many profilic sires and dams with lots to tantalise interested spectactors and breeders.

The classes for 2012 All Ireland Derby are as follows:

Class 1 Bull born between 1st January 2011 and 31st July 2011

Class 2 Bull born on or after 1st August 2011

Class 3 Heifer born between 1st June 2010 and 30th June 2011

Class 4 Heifer born on or after 1st July 2011

Champion Male

Champion Female

Northern Ireland Limousin Club Chairperson Derek Frew commented: “I am delighted that the All-Ireland Derby has again been well supported into its sixth year and continues to be a highlight of the show calendar within both regions. This event is a successful cross-border initiative between the NI Limousin Cattle Club and the Irish Limousin Society and has served as a strong foundation to forge lasting relationships between breeders from both areas. At the recent Open Day at Corries Farm there was a display of 13 pedigree Limousin bulls showcasing the Limousin’s ability in both the pedigree and commercial markets.”

This competition could not exist without the contribution of our long-standing sponsors Teemore Engineering, Derrylin and new sponsors Connaught Gold, Trouw Nutrition International, DSM, Alltech, Natural Nutrition (Michael Gibbons) and Elphin Show.
