ANSIDE AND LODGE SECURE LIMOUSIN INTERBREED DOUBLE AT FORFAR’S STARS OF THE FUTURE CALF SHOW

Limousin cattle dominated the Stars of the Future Calf Show, held on Saturday 17^th November, when they won both the Senior and Junior Interbreed titles respectively.  This establishing event, which is now in its third year, was once again held at Lawrie & Symington’s Forfar Market.

Taking the Senior Interbreed title was Mr & Mrs Stephen Irvine, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, By Keith, Banffs, Moray with their 3^rd November born bull Anside Gigolo.  Featuring some top bloodlines in his pedigree, Anside Gigolo is by the 22,000gns Derriaghy Enfield, a Broadmeadows Cannon son, and is out of Larkhall Didi, a Wilodge Tonka daughter.  Derriaghy Enfield was purchased in Carlisle, October 2010, in partnership with Emslies Livestock.   Earlier in the day Anside Gigolo had been placed as Senior Champion in the Limousin section judged by James Hazard of the noted Mereside pedigree herd at Saltby Heath Farm, Grantham, Lincolnshire.  Commenting on his Senior Champion, James Hazard said: “This is a strong young bull with natural width and a superb top.  With both growth and power he has everything required for today’s market.”

Judging both the Interbreed titles was well known Newark Market auctioneer Paul Gentry.

The Limousin Interbreed double was confirmed when Mr. Gentry tapped forward the April 2012 born bull calf Lodge Hydro as his Junior Interbreed Champion.   Lodge Hydro was bred and exhibited by Ian and Wendy Callion from Bolfornought Farm, Stirling. Got by AI, Lodge Hydro is by the noted Rossignol, and is out of Lodge Electra, a daughter of the herd’s stock bull Attila.  Earlier Limousin judge James Hazard said of his Junior Champion:  “This is an exceptional example of a real commercial type of bull.  He showed fine bone and had tremendous muscle and style.  I’m sure this bull is destined to go and breed some really top calves.”

In the Limousin judging the Senior Female championship went to R&J Graham, Airthrey Kerse Dairy Farm, Bridge of Allan, Stirling, with the September 2011 born Grahams Glorious.  This heifer is by the 30,000gns Millgate Clinker and is out of the French dam Ulsie.

Taking the Junior Female Championship was Glenrock Honeysuckle from Mr & Mrs SD Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway.  January 2012 born Glenrock Honeysuckle is by Castleview Deloitte, and is out of the Ronick Hawk sired Glenrock Cellest.
