The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) Breeders’ Sale held on behalf of Members of the South West Limousin Club on Wednesday 10th April 2013 at Holsworthy Market, Devon, realised a top price of 4,400gns with a good standard of bulls meeting with a largely commercial trade. Overall, 8 bulls sold to an average of £3,330 representing an increase of £125 on the year.
With a large percentage of cattle forward successfully sold, the overall top call of the day was the 4,400gns paid for Loosebeare Greenday sold on behalf of EW Quick & Sons, Loosebeare Manor, Zeal Monachorum, Crediton, Devon. A son of the 11,000gns Haltcliffe Anzac (by Sympa) and out of the Rainbow Simon daughter, Loosebeare Duchess, this September 2011-born bull carries a Beef Value of LM+43. He was purchased by Miss C Runnalls, Hill View Farm, Liverton, Newton Abbot for her Leveton pedigree Limousin Herd.
Having stood as Reserve Champion in the pre-sale show under Judge Mr D Luxton, North Alfordon, Okehampton, Killerton Gabriel, consigned by Mr & Mrs PW & SM Greed, Columbjohn Farm Ltd, Rewe, Exeter reached 3,800gns. Again September 2011-born, Gabriel is by the Saphir son, Hafodlas Auron, and is out of the Nenuphar-sired Killerton Angel. Purchaser was Mr Finnemore, Higher Lank, St Breward, Bodmin.
Messrs Greed sold a two further two bulls at the 3,500gns mark. Richard Webber, Lower House Farm, Wheddon Cross, Minehead snapped up Killerton Gusto, another son of Hafodlas Auron, and this time out of the Lowabbey United bred Killerton Calypso. A few lots later, Killerton Gorse was knocked down to RE Richards, Morvah, Tregaminon Farm, St Keverne, Helston. Gorse is by the Anzac son, Loosebeare Exmoor, and is out of the Hartside Hensingham granddaughter, Killerton Thirdone.
Champion Female and 2,300gns top price was Rosecroft Gabby from Mr DK Wheeler, Goodiford Mill, Kentisbeare, Cullompton when going under the hammer to A Wilton, Little Grimpstone, Black Hawton, Totnes. June 2011-born, she is by the AI sire, Ulm, and is out of Rosecroft Candy, a Grahams Unbeatable daughter. At the 1,800gns mark was another heifer from Mr Wheeler, Rosecroft Herrera.
