Fleethill Bull makes 3,000gns

The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) Breeders’ Show & Sale held on behalf of members of the South West Club at Bristol Sales Centre on 9th July 2013, was led by the 3,000gns Fleethill Farnham. Sired by the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and out of the Maraiscote Volt daughter, Fleethill Chiffon, this rising three-year-old bull was consigned by MJ Gray & Son, Great Cellws, Crossgates, Llandrindod Wells.  Purchaser was JH Jenkins, Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan. The top price on the day, however, came from the Ardevora Dispersal in the shape of the 3,250gns Chytodden Fancyabull.

The female section was well supported and topped at 2,700gns for the 2005-born cow Bapton Aster, bred by Bapton Manor Farm, and brought out by Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler, Goodiford Mill, Kentisbeare, Cullompton. Sired by Rombalds Triumph and out of Bapton Ladylove, she sold suckling her spring-born Rodeo-sired heifer calf Rosecroft Ivory, and having run with Rosecroft Greg. The outfit heads to AS Ball, Bodmin, Cornwall. The Female Champion, Killerton Greta, who was put up by Judge Mr Colin Lewis, Buttington Cross, Welshpool, secured a 2,000gns bid from DC Martin, Helston, Cornwall. An in-calf heifer, she is by Hafodlas Auron and out of a homebred cow by Lowabbey United and was exhibited by PW & SM Greed, Rewe, Exeter. A second-calving cow, Stourhead Eleanor, from H & JL Parker, Stourton, Wilts, sired by Killerton Chicago and out of Stourhead Bridget, sold for the same figure with her bull calf at foot by Loosebeare Eager to Coldbrook Farm, Barry, South Wales.

On the same day, Penhallow Farm Ltd were dispersing their Ardevora Herd of grade register and commercial Limousins which topped at 3,250gns for Chytodden Fancyabull, an Objat grandson. This three-year-old bull, bred by G Hollow, Towednack, St Ives, Cornwall, had been used extensively in the herd having sired many quality progeny, and was secured by Messrs Cottle, Bath, Avon. A great advert for the Limousin breed as a commercial suckler enterprise with quiet, milky, manageable cows, these attributes did not go un-noticed by buyers, with autumn calvers with calves at foot topping at £2,370; spring calvers with calves to £2,020; served heifers to £1,450 and yearling heifers to £900.
