The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) Breeders’ Sale held at Carlisle on Saturday 31st May 2014 saw a 15,500gns top price for the maiden heifer Tweeddale Inita on behalf of Jonathan Watson, Bowsden moor, Bowsden, Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland. April 2013-born, Tweeddale Inita is an embryo calf being by Goldies Fandango and out of the Grahams Trooper daughter, Tweeddale Anita. With a Beef Value of LM+41, she sold at 15,500gns to John Elliot’s Rawburn Herd based at Roxburgh Mains, Kelso.
Also from Mr Watson and part of his first ever production sale of autumn 2012 to spring 2013 heifers, the first lot in the ring, Tweeddale Harika, sold for 12,000gns. Again by Goldies Fandango, this rising nineteen-month-old heifer is out of the Newhouse Cyclone daughter Tweeddale Feefee. Carrying a Beef Value of LM+53 and with a muscle depth of +5.4, she was purchased by Kevin Watret for his Solwayview Herd, Northfieldpark, Annan. Overall, 17 Tweeddale maiden heifers averaged £3,502.
The sale saw 112 lots on offer in all with consignments from the Tweeddale, Trueman, Netherhall, Haltcliffe, Goldies & Lodge herds respectively. Featuring primarily maiden and served heifers the catalogue offered a depth of choice in breeding, bloodlines, and performance. Two animals made over five figures with thirteen in all selling at 5,000gns or more. The sale grossed £289,538 for the lots sold.
The consignment from Henry Savage & Sons Trueman Herd, Skerriff Road, Altnamackin, Newry, Co Down saw a top price of 9,500gns for the ET-bred Trueman Isabella when snapped up by James Alexander for his Jalex Herd based in Randalstown, Co Antrim. This August 2013-born Ampertaine Elgin daughter is the first female to be offered out of the 40th Anniversary National Limousin Show Champion Trueman Euphonium. Isabella carried a Beef Vale of LM+30.
The Trueman Herd sold three others at the 5,000gns mark and above. Heading to the Droit herd of RJ Mowbray, Droit Road, Newtownstewart, Omagh, Co Tyrone for 5,500gns was Trueman Hosanna. March 2012 born, Hosanna is by Ampertaine Commander and out of Cookstown B1425, a Cookstown Villy daughter. She is a maternal sister to the 14,000gns Trueman Grazia, the Reserve Overall Champion at Balmoral 2012 and Overall Champion Red Ladies 2012. Trueman Hosanna went under the hammer in-calf to the 30,000gns Anside Flint.
At 5,100gns was another Ampertaine Commander daughter, the March 2012 Trueman Houston, out of the Nenuphar daughter Trueman Air. She sold in-calf to Anside Flint to D & R McFarland, Comber Road, Omagh, Co Tyrone. Just behind at 5,000gns was Trueman Hannah, a Wilodge Cerberus daughter and out of the Sympa-sired dam Trueman Encemble. She carries a muscle depth of +5.2 and sold in-calf at Ampertaine Elgin to the Tullyglush herd of PJ McDonald, Mullan Road, Tynan, Co Armagh.
The first in the ring from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries was Goldies Infinity who was knocked down at 8,000gns to Tecwyn Jones, Ty Newydd, Nebo, Llanrwst, Gwynedd. This August 2013-born embryo calf, sold suckling her recipient dam, is by Haltcliffe Doctor, a Rossignol son, and out of the noted breeding female Goldies Vitality. Vitality has produced five progeny that have sold over £20,000 each including Goldies Comet who has bred sons up to 30,000gns.
Next into the ring was the served heifer Goldies Henrietta. Born in April 2012, she is by the noted Hartlaw Excaliber and out of the Ampertaine Bravo daughter Goldies Elisa. Sold in-calf to Kaprico Germander, she now heads to the Roma herd of Messrs Robb and MacDonald Flemington Farm, Cambuslang, Glasgow for 4,500gns.
Ian & Wendy Callion, Bolfornought Farm, Stirling saw a top price of 6,200gns for their Lodge contingent. This was for the 2006-born French-bred cow Beaute who was imported from breeders Gaec Dessalas as a yearling heifer. Sired by Tenor, she is out of Poupee and sold with her November 2013-born bull calf, Lodge Imperial, at foot and back in-calf to Ampertaine Commander. Buying the outfit were WA Mowat, Lybster, Caithness for their Whiteleen herd. Earlier in the sale, Messrs Mowat had purchased the 4,000gns Trueman Fantasy. Another Lodge female, Blanche, a 2006-born Ultrabeau daughter bred by J Champerval, sold for 4,800gns to T Scott & Sons, Daltonhook, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. Her dam is the Junior daughter Nivelle and she was sold with her April-born heifer calf by Feroce sat foot. The stock bull Feroce later sold for 4,100gns to A Irving, Toppin Castle, Heads Nook, Brampton, Cumbria being by Vivaldi and out of the Mexicain daughter Bedane.
Having earlier purchased a Trueman heifer, RJ Mowbray, Newtownstewart was back in the bidding when taking home the 6,000gns top price from the Haltcliffe Production Sale for Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Cumbria. This was for the September 2012-born Haltcliffe Harriot, by Larkhill Firmount and out of Haltcliffe Emma, a Sympa daughter, making her full sister to the 43,000gns Haltcliffe Ullswater.
Two heifers made 5,500gns: Haltcliffe Hesta was knocked down to James Alexander, being by Ampertaine Elgin and out of Haltclifee Emily, a Cloughhead Umpire daughter when sold in-calf having ran with Larkhill Firmount. Mr Alexander also purchased Haltcliffe Hockey (by Volcano).
Haltcliffe Herb, who also made 5,500gns, was next to sell to the Chameran pedigree herd of Highfields Park Farm, Highfields, Withyham, Hartfield, E SussexAugust. 2012-born, she is another AI calf by Haltcliffe DJ and is out of Haltcliffe Fantasy, a Greenwell Major daughter. Herb is a maternal sister to the 28,000gns Haltcliffe Dynasty and Haltcliffe Braveheart (who sold as a half share for 25,000gns) and was sold in-calf to Haltcliffe Fencer. At 5,000gns was Haltcliffe Index (Haltcliffe Vermount x Haltcliffe Dazzler) who was purchased by W Orme, Home Farm, Stalling Busk, Askrigg, N Yorks for their Busk herd.
David & Maggie Kelly, Nether Hall, Mansergh, Cumbria reached 5,000gns. This was for Netherhall Holly, by Haltcliffe Favori and out of the Neuf daughter Netherhall Dolly. Born in October 2012, she was another to be knocked down to Highfields Park Farm, Hartfield, East Sussex.
Another maiden heifer, Netherhall Hottotty, sold at 4,500gns. She is by Haltcliffe Favori and out of the homebred dam Netherhall Bacardi, a Usant daughter. New owners are I & G Grant, Braehead, Bank of Gallery, Montrose, Angus who run the Gallery pedigree Limousin herd.
