The British Limousin Cattle Society Breeders’ Sale held on behalf of members of the South Western Limousin Breeders’ Club at Exeter on Friday 27th June 2014, saw a top price of 3,500gns for the rising ten-year-old cow Rosecroft Versace from David & Anne Wheeler, Goodiford Mill, Kentisbeare, Devon.

With an excellent show record behind her including Limousin Championships at the 2008 Devon County and Bath & West Shows respectively together with being a member of the Interbreed-winning Team of Five at the 2007 Royal Show, this powerful cow is by the French sire Lino and is out of the Irish-bred Ferry daughter Elite S-152. Sold with her October-born Grahams Unbeatable-sired heifer calf at foot, Rosecroft Irresistible, and due again in January to the same sire, she was purchased by Steve Edmunds, Saveock Manor, Chacewater,Truro.

The females were in strong demand with 28 out of the 32 forward selling to represent a healthy clearance rate of 87% and to average £1,765.

From the small show of bulls forward, the top call of 3,000gns also came for the Wheelers this time in the shape of Rosecroft Imperial.  This February 2013 born bull is sired by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus and out of the Grahams Unbeatable daughter Rosecroft Diamond. Purchasers were DH & SM Churchill, Higher Stockham Farm, South Chard for their Shellstock prefix.

Back to the females and the same vendors sold the next highest price outfit at 2,500gns.  This was paid for Rosecroft Ginnie, another by Grahams Unbeatable, who was sold with her month-old bull calf at foot Rosecroft Jamie by the Ulm son Rosecroft Greg.  Purchasing this outfit was Carolyn Runnalls, Hill View Farm, Liverton, Newton Abbot for her Leveton Herd.

In-calf heifers sold to a top call of 2,350gns for the two-year-old Nealford Hummingbird from Messrs JH Neale & Son, Wilkie Down, Boyton, Launceston. By Haymount Dacre and out of Marydowne Babe this cracking heifer, due in November to Ampertaine Foreman, was sold to Simon Curtis, Little Coombe Farm, Cadeleigh, Tiverton. Mr Curtis also snapped up the pick of the maiden heifers from Patrick Greed, Columbjohn Farm, Rewe, Exeter with the 1,520gns Loosebeare Exmoor-sired Killerton Hart who is out of the Grange Nawak daughter Killerton Tart.

Messrs Neale also sold Marydowne Beauty a 2006-born cow sired by Loosebeare Trigger and out of Marydowne Urchin with her May-born heifer calf, Nealford Jemima, by the Objat son Nealford Falcon at 2,250gns. This outfit heads to Guy French, Spearcey Farm, Staplehay, Trull, Taunton.
