Bulls sell to a top of 3,000gns

It was Ladies Day at the Autumn Limousin Club Sale held at Newark on Saturday 11th October on behalf of the East Midlands and N Wales & Mid-West Limousin Clubs, with the 2010-born cow Millstone Fragrance from John Oakes, Stone Trough Farm, Holly Lane, Harrisahead, Stoke topping the trade at 6,200gns. This Wilodge Vantastic daughter, being out of Millstone Bonique (by Nelombo), sold with her Rocky-sired bull calf at foot, Millstone Jaffa. Purchasing this second calver with a Beef Value of LM+35 was DS Townend, Malton.

Taking the day’s second best price at 4,000gns was the very last lot in the sale, Pasturefields Iamtheone from the Birch Family, Old Station Yard, London Road, Weston, Stafford. This September 2013-born Anside Flint daughter is out of Bankdale Dana, by Sarkley Volt and out of the exceptional Bankdale Alice line and was knocked down to the Gascoines Group, Newark.

Next at 3,500gns was Cresswell Emma from Anthony Sayer, Willow Farm, Sandon Road, Hilderstone, Staffs. This is a 2009-born Sympa-sired cow and out of the Jockey daughter Woodhouse Sugar. She sold with a bull calf at foot, Cresswell Jacob, by WilodgeTonka to Gary Sharp, Essex.

And making 3,200gns was Calogale Hazel from GJ Lee & CM Lloyd, Ger-Y-Coed, Four Roads, Kidwelly, Carms. This is an Ampertaine Bravo daughter and out of Goldies Visual, by Sarkley Ragtime when knocked down to Messrs Woodward, Norwich.

Following that at 2,800gns was the day’s Female Champion, Willowvale Hannah, from Anthony Sayer Jnr. This Rocky daughter is out of Woodhouse Verbina, a Nenuphar daughter, and was bought by the Judge from the pre-sale show Berwyn Hughes, Lampeter, who runs the Cwmlimo Herd. Commenting on his Champion, Mr Hughes said “She is a very powerful and correct heifer, and very difficult to fault.”

A few lots later, John Oakes sold Millstone Honey at 2,600gns to C & S Creaser, Gowthorpe, N Yorkshire. This Mas Du Clo daughter is out of Millstone Bonique, the same Nelombo-sired dam as the day’s sale topper, and sold having been AI’d to WilodgeTonka.

The bull trade saw a 3,000gns top call for the senior herd sire Netherhall Chancer from WJ & M Mash, Torrington Farm, Grove Lane, Chesham, Bucks. This 2007-born son of Rocky is out of a Lasso daughter and sold to Messrs Holling, Alfreton, Derbyshire for their Twilyte Herd.

Following that at 2,800gns was Frogmore Icarus from Chris White, Frogmore Farmhouse, Moreton-in-Marsh, Glocs. This Rainbow Simon son is out of Rombalds Elsie, a Sympa daughter. Buying back some of their breeding were Messrs EJ & LJ White, Brewood, Staffordshire for their Rainbow prefix.

Then making 2,700gns was Coachhouse Izzard from Messrs Heald, Home Farm, Grove, Retford. Sired by the homebred Coachhouse Eebygum and out of Coachhouse Essential, a Bailea Ulsterman dam, he was knocked down to Messrs Atkinson, Boston, Lincolnshire.

A brace then sold at 2,600gns, with the first of these being Westside Black Ike from S & GA Potter, Westside, Topcliffe, Thirsk. Sired by the black sire Tamarvalley Boscastle, he is out of Westside Empress, an Imperial daughter and was the choice of RJ Mawby, Rugby.

The other at this level was Rempstone Invincible from Helen Burton, Lings Farm, Rempstone, Loughborough . Sired by the noted Goldies Comet, he is out of Rempstone Empress, an Ardnacrusha Uthman daughter. Selling with a Beef Value of LM+41 he headed south to Headcorn, Kent, with John Cox.

Taking a final bid of 2,500gns was Goldies Herdsman another from S & GA Potter with this Hartlaw Excaliber son being out of Goldies Dalida, a Goldies Terence daughter. He sold with a Beef Value of LM+42 and went home with A Clifton, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
