Bank Holiday Monday 31st August is going to be a big Limousin day in Northern Ireland with an Open day, between 3pm – 6pm, at the suckler enterprise of Murtagh Walls, Hilltown Farm, followed by a sale of Limousin females at Hilltown Mart commencing at 7pm.
The NI Limousin Cattle Club is now in the final stages of getting ready for the upcoming Unhaltered Female Sale on the 31st August at Hilltown Mart. This is the first time the Club has held a sale of its own, just for Club members, and it has been supported really well with 47 lots up for sale from some of the best herds in Northern Ireland. These include females from Shanhill, Lynderg, Melbreak, Millgate, Carmorn, Larkhill, Titchburn, Ashmara, Millview, Tullybake and Tullyglush.
There are top quality breeding lines available with some first class females on offer. Breeder Jim Quail, Banbridge, has five lots in the sale with great bloodlines including two Lynderg Hero heifers. Michael Loughran, Dunamore, has six lots for sale all with excellent pedigrees from his herd with bloodlines connected to Millgate Fame and Millgate Caesar. Neil Martin, Dromara, has brought forward 15 lots which include 6 in-calf heifers and 8 maiden heifers with bloodlines featuring Sympa, Rocky, Greensons Gigolo, Grahams Samson, Redpaths Jaguar, Ampertaine Abracadabra, Wilodge Tonka, Grahams Unbeatable, Reddings Alfie, Haltcliffe Dancer and Goldies Comet.
Brian McAuley, Larkhill herd, Antrim, has entered three lots with new bloodlines, Ampertaine Elgin and Wilodge Fantastic bloodlines plus a very appealing female bred from Larkhill Countess, a Carmorn Penny daughter with Emue, Bailea Umandy and Wilodge Ravenelle bloodlines
Donal Murray, Cullyhanna, and his Titchburn herd have some exceptional cow & calf units catalogued which have bred bulls to £10,000 & £12,000 respectively plus heifers with Haltcliffe Dancer and Ampertaine Elgin bloodlines. Whereas J &A Callion’s Melbreak Herd has a cow & calf unit and two young females entered for sale with French bloodlines including Neuf, Milou, Dauphin and Obole, as well as Ampertaine Commander.
Francis McAuley’s Carmorn herd has two lots entered which include a Soprano cow who is in calf to Goldies Hallmark and a young heifer sired by Ampertaine Eliminator out of a home bred dam going back to Ronick Blonde bloodlines. The heifer is AI’d to Mullary Intrepid the Overall Limousin Male Champion at the National Show, Tullamore 2014.
Arthur Malone, Castlewellan has two maiden heifers on offer from his Millview herd. Kevin Mackin & Sons, Newtownhamilton have a Cloughead Umpire cow for sale which is served to Trueman Jukebox. Kevin also has this cow’s maiden heifer for sale which is sired by Cloughhead Ernie, an Objat son.
Patrick McDonald has two lots on offer from his Tullyglush herd both bred from sire Carmorn Copilot, who has bred bulls to a price of £13,000, combined with other bloodlines including Ronick Iceman, Grahams Unbeatable and Ulm.
The Club also warmly invites all to come along to the Open Day at Murtagh Walls Hilltown Farm at the foot of the Mourne Mountains where he will be showcasing a superb grassland farm with an excellent Limousin suckler enterprise. This is the perfect chance to see Murtagh’s suckler herd operation on his 130 acres Hillside farm which has been in the Walls family for four generations and is renowned for great grassland management. Cows on the farm have 7/8ths and 3/4s Limousin breeding with great calves, good milk and exceptional maternal traits.
There will be plenty to see and do at the Open Day with trade stands and more between 3pm and 6pm on the same day prior to the sale at Hilltown Mart which is starting at 7pm.
