On behalf of the Council of Management and staff, the Society would like to sincerely thank all BLCS members, and purchasers/users of Limousin genetics, for their continued support throughout 2015.
Year on year, even within a difficult industry, the achievements of the breed remain at a remarkable level. 2015 has been no different with some solid, and in instances record breaking sales, as well as unbridled success at the summer and winter shows. Most importantly it is the commercial success of the breed in the market place, built on profitability, that drives the breed forward.
In 2016 we will again be taking aim at an ambitious programme of work to deliver ongoing breed improvement, grow the market for the breed, and with the needs of the membership and commercial beef producers as the priority. The undertaking is there to members to continue to provide herdbook, promotional, and technical services on your behalf that are cost effective, professional, add value and allow you to run your pedigree business as well and as profitably as possible. For both members and commercial producers the Society, in 2015, has delivered GEBVs for Carcase traits, a first in the British Beef industry; Limousin is the main breed in the DEFRA funded Feed Efficiency project which commenced in the year. In 2016 it will also be commencing work on a Maternal Traits project.
All of this work and investment is aimed at continuous breed improvement, meeting the needs of the market place, positioning the Limousin breed, and with a view to laying a platform for a profitable future using Limousin genetics!
Best wishes are extended to you for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, and profitable 2016.
