Dumbreck Jaguar from Messrs D Work, Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, Ellon, made 5000gns to lead a strong Limousin trade at the Multi Breed Show & Sale of Pedigree Cattle held at Aberdeen & Northern Marts, Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Wednesday 24th February 2016.

Some excellent early spring sales around the UK have seen a strong demand for Limousin bulls coupled with high clearance rates and good averages.  The sale at Thainstone continued this trend with 13 of the 14 bulls forward selling to represent a clearance rate of 93%, the highest of all the breeds at the sale.  Eight bulls in all made 4000gns or more with the thirteen selling to average £4152.

The May 2014 born Dumbreck Jaguar is by the 22,000gns Hartlaw Excaliber and is out of the milky Dumbreck Classy, a Greenbank Star daughter.  Jaguar had stood second in his class to the day’s Champion.  Purchasing the top price was WJ&P MacKenzie, Hilton Farm, Tain.

Two bulls made 4800gns.  The first of these was the June 2014 born Anside Jazz from Mr & Mrs S Irvine, T/A Anside Pedigree Livestock, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, By Keith, Banffs.  Earlier in the day this bull had been placed as the Supreme Champion in the Limousin section by pre-sale show judge Lee Coghill, Muce Farm, Birsay Orkney.  Anside Jazz is by the herd’s 22,000gns stock bull Derriaghy Enfield and is out of the Frewstown Breakdance sired Anside Evie.  Buying this Champion Limousin bull was WM & C Alexander, Quintfall, Lyth, Wick.

Also at 4800gns was the third prize winning Emslies Jamesbond from Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, Peterhead.  This bull is by the herd’s 18,000gns Dinmore Goldcrest and is out of Emslies Eryl which has previously had progeny sell up to 15,000gns.  Taking this June 2014 born bull home was IW Hall, Home Farm, Rothienorman, Inverurie.  The Emslies herd also sold bulls at 3000gns, and 2800gns respectively.

Selling at 4500gns was Shannas Joe from Mr & Mrs J Penny, Shannas, Mintlaw, Peterhead.  Joe is by the Attirant son Garnedd Ferrari and is out of the Dyke Thunder sired Shannas Godetia.  Buying the fourth top priced bull was D&G Tait, Campston, Toab, Deerness. The Pennys also sold Shannas Jethro for 4000gns to Messrs JB Smith, Knockhourn, Knockando, Aberlour.

The Reserve Champion Limousin was the May 2014 born Knock Jumbo from Mr AG Howie, West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead.  A son of the Vantastic sired Goldies Goldfinger and out of Knock Fifi, Jumbo was sold for 4000gns to D&P Petrie, West Maldron, Torphons, Banchory.  Later in the catalogue the black coated Knock Black Justright was sold for 3800gns.

Mr PA Walker, Easterside, Dunnottar, Stonehaven also made 4000gns when selling Walkes Jaffa.  Jaffa is by Allanfauld Gazza and is out of the Grahams Samson sired Walkers Ulinda.  June 2014 born Walkers Jaffa was purchased by IJ Blackhall, Milton, Durris, Banchory.  The very next lot Walkers Jethro, another Allanfauld Gazza son, made 3800gns.

The youngest Limousin bull in the catalogue and who placed second in his class, Harestone JB, made 4000gns when selling for Mr NR Barclay, South Road, Insch.  A July 2014 born embryo calf, Harestone JB is by Ryedale Paragon and is out of Balnacraig Jasmin.  The Fieldson Alfy son Harestone Jerry had earlier sold for 3800gns.
