It was a head to head for top price of 3,800gns between two local breeders at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s (BLCS) Bull & Female sale held at Dungannon Mart on Monday 8th February. The sale saw a solid trade with a clearance rate of 76% for bulls.  In all 29 bulls sold to average £2,702 (-£24) Three females averaged £1,365.

Pointhouse Jockey, bred by father and son team Michael and Kile Diamond, Garvagh, took top spot in the pre-sale show when winning the Overall Supreme Champion, Male Champion and Junior Champion awards under the eye of the day’s judge, Jonathan Aiken, Dromara, who runs the Carnew herd.  This September 2014 born bull is sired by Ampertaine Elgin and is out of the homebred dam Pointhouse Hermione a Wilodge Cerberus daughter.  Sold with a Beef Value of LM+42, he is also in the top 1% of the breed for muscle depth.  Pointhouse Jockey now heads to new owner T Harrison, Portadown for his commercial enterprise.

Also fetching the joint top price of 3,800gns was Rahoney Jeremiah bred by H & D McFarland, Trillick. Standing as the Reserve Senior Champion this bull is sired by Haltcliffe Vermount and is out of the home bred dam Rahoney Velma, who has Tanat Mostyn bloodlines, and has bred bulls to 13,000gns & 10,000gns. This May 2014 born embryo calf with a Beef Value of LM+32 was purchased by  S McCann, Portglenone.

The Rahoney herd also sold a half-brother to the top price, and a first prize winner on the day, in the shape of Rahoney Joel for 3,500gns. Another embryo calf also born in May 2014, and out of the same dam, this bull is sired by Swarland Eddie and carried a beef value of LIM+32.  He was purchased by James Alexander, Randalstown for his commercial business.

Third top price of 3,100gns went to Togherdoo Jacko bred by V Keys, Galbally. This August 2014 born bull is sired by Crossdykes Goliath, who has Cloughhead Lord bloodlines, and is out of homebred dam Togherdoo Eskie, an Ampertaine Abracadabra daughter. With a Beef Value of LIM+36 he now heads to Limavady to new owner J Mullan.

Females presented at sale were young in age and the top priced female at 1,800gns came in the form of Lealies Julia bred by J Wilson, Ballyclare.  This July 2014 born heifer took Female Champion in the show and is sired by Wilodge Fastrac out of homebred dam Lealies Bella, a Milbrook Vic daughter. Purchaser of this heifer was M Fleming from Magherafelt.
