The Northern Ireland Limousin Cattle Club’s AGM was held recently at Dungannon Rugby Club and saw Henry Savage back in the position of club chairman for another term
Henry addressed the members attending the meeting and commenced proceedings of the 36th Club AGM. He summarised the Club’s successes over 2015; congratulating local breeders on their successes at shows and sales held throughout the past 12 months. He also thanked the judges, sponsors and everyone who had helped at all the events held by the Club.
After normal AGM business Henry thanked retiring Committee members Christine Loughran, Omagh; Derek Bell, Dungannon and Paul Rainey, Kilrea for their input over their term of three years. After proposals, voting and a refreshment break, three new members where to be elected onto Committee and two more members were co-opted. Henry welcomed Michael Diamond, Swatragh; Ciaran Hamill, Lisburn; Peter Murphy, Newry; Kim Steele-Nicholson, Antrim and Finbar O’Brien, Newry, as new Executive Committee members.
During the evening Henry and members presented outgoing Club President Jim Scott with a crystal vase to mark their gratitude for all his help and hard work at the Club over the last three years. Also marking a milestone in the Club was Jim Quail, who had been in position as BLCS representative at Council level for 18 years. He was awarded a Honorary Member medal from the Club. Both Jim Scott and Jim Quail both expressed their thanks and spoke of their enjoyment over the years working with the Club and wished their successors all the best.
Henry then introduced guest speaker Paul Sykes from the Irish Limousin Cattle Society. Paul congratulated Henry as Club Chairman and thanked the Club for inviting him up to talk about the upcoming International Limousin Congress to be held in Ireland from Tuesday 20th August until Sunday 28th August this year. Paul detailed what was on offer over the 9 days, stating there was a 9 day plan, a 6 day plan and a 3 day plan available to anyone wishing to come along as a delegate. He spoke of the varied visits to landmarks including Bru Na Boinne Visitor Centre, Clonmacnoise, Bunratty Castle, Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre, Virginia Show, Guinness Storehouse, Rock of Cashel, Coolmore Stud, and Blarney Castle. During the week there will be herd visits to the well renowned Ardlea and Roundhill herds. Along with these locations there will be various evening entertainment with BBQ’s and much more. The National Limousin Show will be held on Friday 26th August at Kilkenny with the best of Irish breeding of commercial and pedigree Limousins on show. The final day will have a Parade of Champions and an Elite sale followed by a Gala Banquet on Saturday night. Depending on the interest received by the end of May the Club will organise a trip with the intentions of attending parts of the programme, like Virginia Show, some herd visits, the evening BBQ, the ILC show, the sale and perhaps the Gala Banquet.
