The in-calf heifer Glenrock Inclusive from local breeders Messrs DG Green & Son, Derriaghy Road, Lisburn, Co Antrim swept all before her when winning the Limousin Overall Supreme Championship on the opening day of the 2016 Balmoral Show, Belfast, Wednesday 11th May.
Originally bred by Stephen Illingworth, Lockerbie, the November 2013 born heifer was purchased by the Greens for 14,000gns at the Glenrock Herd sale held in Carlisle in August 2014. Having first lifted the Female Championship the November 2013-born Glenrock Inclusive powered through to get the nod from the judge Martin Irvine of the noted Anside herd, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, By Keith, Banffs.
Glenrock Inclusive is by the Nenuphar son Bremore Artist and is another embryo calf out of the renowned Glenrock Spangle.
Capping a fine day for the Derriaghy herd, which lies some ten minutes away from the showground, the young bull Derriaghy Lincoln won the Junior Champion Bull award, Reserve Male Overall, and Reserve Junior Champion Overall. This April 2015 born calf is by Haltcliffe Vermount and is out of Derriaghy Hitoria.
Placed as Reserve Overall Supreme Champion was the January 2015 born maiden heifer Claragh Lily from JD Rainey, Kilrea, Co. Derry. Sired by the noted Wilodge Vantastic she is out of Haltcliffe Avon. Scooping numerous awards Claragh Lily picked up the Reserve Supreme Overall; Exhibitor Bred Championship; Junior Champion; Junior Female Champion; and Reserve Overall Female Champion. The show success for the Claragh herd followed on from a very successful female sale at Carlisle five days previously where they had attained a top price of 18,000gns for a maiden heifer.
Taking the Overall Male Championship was Republic of Ireland breeder Donal Moloney with Ardnacrusha Jaguar. This November 2014 born bull is another by Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the French bred female Etole.
