Haltcliffe Gains is by Haltcliffe Dynamo and out of noted female, Haltcliffe Ainsi. His son, Haltcliffe Jonsson, was senior champion at Carlisle last October, where he subsequently made 11,500gns. Gains sold to S & S Hough of the Featherstone Herd, Pontefract in West Yorkshire.
The second top price was Ampertaine Jan, from WJ & J McKay of Maghera, County Derry in Northern Ireland. One of 12 heifers brought across the water by the McKays, she is sired by Plumtree Fantastic and out of Ampertaine Venice, as well as being half sister to the 19,000gns Ampertaine Geronimo and to the 10,500gns Ampertaine Jupiter. Jan was born in July 2014 and went home with AJ Ewing of the Fairywater Herd, Annan, Dumfriesshire.
Two out of the three lots which made 4,800gns came from the McKays’ 120-strong herd, which was established in 1984. Their Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Ampertaine Lola, caught the eye of W Corrie from the Drumhilla Herd in County Down. Lola was born in January 2015 and is a maternal sister of the noted Ampertaine Valhalla, which has bred numerous show calves.
The McKays also accepted a 4,800gns bid for lot 60, Ampertaine Janice, by Sympa. She is a November-2014 female from the widely respected Sharon family. Janice was snapped up by Hampshire Livestock, a business based at Huby near York.
The third lot at 4,800gns was offered by James & Sarah Cooper of Dacre in North Yorkshire. They sold Tomschoice Lust to WJ Marr from Cornhill, Aberdeenshire. The February 2015-born bull was sired by Warrenderpark Geronimo. He came with good figures for calving and carries two copies of the F94L Profit Gene. Lust’s sister is the dam of Tomschoice Ironstone, currently at stud in Ireland.
At 4,500gns was Dyke Jings, a November 2014 bull entered by JR MacGregor, Campsie, Glasgow. The Netherall Gilbert son’s granddam, Dyke Cava, is dam of the 10,000gns Dyke Galaxy and Dyke Hurricane, which went for 6,000gns to MG Green, from Lochmaben, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.
