On Saturday 12th November 2022 the last British Limousin Cattle Society bull sale of the year took place at Brecon Auction Mart. Achieving a top price of 6,000gns and an average of £4,222.50. A strong demand for Limousin bulls within the commercial sector is evident with many going home to local commercial buyers.

Killerton Soliver 6,000gns Reserve Senior Champion

Reserve Senior Male Champion Lot 4 Killerton Soliver took the top price for the day selling for 6,000gns, brought forward by Mr & Mrs P W & S M Greed, Columbjohn Farm Ltd, Devon. Soliver won Best Bull Born 2021 in the South West Limousin Club Herd Competition 2022 and The All Breeds Young Bull of the Year competition at Agrifest South West 2022. He is sired by the herds stock bull Goldies Jeff which the herd purchased in Carlisle May 2015 for 6,000gns.  He is out of the homebred cow Killerton Olive, who goes back to Emslies Horny. Born February 2021, he has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM52, which is in the top 1% of the breed.  He has a short journey home to LLanddew with this new owners J E & C Price, Oaklands Farm.

Judge Mr Josh Knaggs

Judge for the day was Mr Josh Knaggs of the Jorica Pedigree Limousin herd based in Darlington. Mr Knaggs commented “The bulls presented today had great shape, presence, and style. The Champion and Reserve Champion are the type of bulls I would use back at home and very deserving titles to award.”

Nealford Shearer 5,000gns Overall Champion

Next up was Lot 15 Nealford Shearer, presented by Mr J H Neale and Son, Wilkie Down, Cornwall. Shearer won Junior Male Champion and Overall Male Champion in the pre-sale show, he played a field of bidders and sold for 5,000gns to W C R Cooke and Sons, Nantyderi Farm, Abergavenny. Shearer has double F94L myostatin and an impressive Beef Value of LM54, which is in the top 1% of the breed. This April 2021-born bull is sired by the herds stock bull Loosebeare Master which the herd purchased in Carlisle October 2017 for 12,000gns.

Ashledge Sherwood 4,500gns Senior Champion

Messrs A G Kirton and Sons, Severn Lodge Farm, Bewdley presented Lot 9 Ashledge Sherwood who won Senior Male Champion and Reserve Overall Male Champion, he went onto to sell for 4,500gns. He is sired by the herds stock bull Tomschoice Obilvion and out of the homebred cow Ashledge Orangeblossom, how goes back to Honeymore Favourite. Sherwood, who was born in March 2021, has double F94L myostatin traits and a Beef Value of LM34. He now calls Bromyard home under the new ownership of S W G Davies and Son, Little Farm.

A further two bulls sold for 4,000gns. The first was Lot 11 Killerton Snapdragon from the above-mentioned Mr & Mrs P W & S M Greed. This March 2021-born bull is sired by the stock bull Garnedd Neptune, who has Trueman Idol and Ampertaine Elgin in his back pedigree. The herd purchased Neptune in Carlisle May 2019 for 7,000gns. Snapdragon is out of the homebred cow Killerton Marigold, he has a Beef Value of LM40 which is in the top 25% of the breed. E D Phillips, Glandwr Farm, Abergavenny takes Snapdragon home.

Also achieving 4,000gns was Lot 24 Twemlows Sargentmajor from W L and J A Forrester, Lodge Farm, Shropshire. The May 2021-born bull, who came second in his class, has a Beef Value of LM34. He is sired by the popular AI bull Ampertaine Jeronimo who has Plumtree Fantastic, Wilodge Vantastic and Cloughhead Umpire in his back pedigree. Sargentmajor is out of the homebred cow Twemlows Major. He is the new recruit for W E & M V Gash, Southleigh Farm, Swindon of the Mirwil Pedigree Limouisn herd.

Cowin Seleri 2,600gns

Reserve Champion Female Lot 35 Cowin Seleri from Messrs W D D and C James, Blaencowin, Carmarthenshire, achieved top price female for the day selling for 2,600gns. Born February 2021, Seleri has a Beef Value of LM36 and is out of the homebred cow Cowin Lena. Seleri is sired by Plumtree Najinski who goes back to the renowned cow Bankdale Amber. She was snapped up by D E Lewis and Co, Gwarcoed Eion, Llanybydder.

M J and J M Price, Penycrug Farm, Powys, sold two heifers for 2,400gns. The first to sell was Lot 40 Beulah Soleisha, who was placed first in her class and won Female Champion. Born in April 2021, she is sired by 22,000gns Gunnerfleet Lion and out of the homebred cow Beulah Oleisha. The final bid landed on D E Lewis and Co making it their second purchase of the day.

The second to sell for M J and J M Price was Lot 45 Beulah Sally. She is sired by Gunnerfleet Lion and out of the homebred cow Beulah Lilly, who goes back to Ampertaine Elgin. This May 2021-born heifer was taken home by the aforementioned W D D and C James of the Cowin Pedigree Limousin Herd.
