• Anside UFO wins Supreme Championship & Reserve Junior Interbreed honours
  • Limousin win Interbreed Group of 4 championship
  • Limousin win Interbreed Pairs Championship
  • Goldies Viscount stands overall Continental Beefbreeder Champion with Goldies Victory claiming Reserve Continental Beefbreeder Champion.

The 2025 Royal Highland Show delivered another memorable showcase of pedigree Limousin cattle, with visitors enjoying a fantastic day under soaring summer temperatures. From the show ring to the breed stand, enthusiasm and interest in Limousins remained high throughout, highlighting the breed’s continued prominence and appeal across the industry.

Competition intensified as the show progressed, culminating in a string of impressive wins for Limousin exhibitors in the interbreed sections. Anside UFO was the reserve champion pick in the junior interbreed championships. The breed also claimed top honours in the beef interbreed team championship for the third year in a row. This team consisted of Maraiscote Sherlock, Crajan Unison, Grahams Umandy and Petteril Sugababe. Anside UFO and Crajan Unison teamed up to be tapped out top in the beef interbreed pairs classes, reinforcing the breeds standing as a dominate breed in UK beef breeding.

Interbreed Team Champions

Judging duties for the Limousin section fell to Andrew Burnett of the Spittalton herd, Stirling. On Thursday, 19th June, he selected Anside UFO as his overall champion. This stylish young bull, bred by S and D Irvine of Drummuir, Banffshire, delivered an outstanding performance, sweeping the board with a full suite of titles; overall champion, male champion, junior champion, junior male champion and was part of the winning beef interbreed pairs.

Andrew Burnett commented, “My champion filled the eye on entering the ring, He was full of breed character, had a lovely masculine head and a great width throughout. He was the complete package.”

The Irvine family were also awarded breeder of the best bull and breeder of the best Limousin animal on show.

The 19-month-old UFO, who carries double F94L myostatin, is sired by Gunnerfleet Lion and out of Anside Owena, a Powerful Irish daughter noted for producing bulls to 15,000gns. UFO will now be retained as a future stock sire for the herd.

This success follows hot on the heels of the Irvines’ recent triumph at the May Stirling bull sales, where their bull Anside Urban was crowned overall champion and sold for 22,000gns.

Society CEO Paul Rainey commented, “I was delighted to see such a strong line up of Limousin cattle, with a high standard of quality from the first class right through to the last which is a testament to all exhibitors. Congratulations to the Irvine family on a very worthy champion.”

Following closely in the reserve champion spot at just 15 months old, was Goldies Victory, bred by Bruce Goldie of Dumfries and Galloway. This tremendous young bull earned an impressive set of accolades claiming, reserve overall champion, reserve male champion, reserve junior champion and reserve junior male. A son of Ampertaine Opportunity out of Goldies Obsession (a Wilodge LJ daughter), Victory boasts double F94L myostatin and ranks in the top 1% of the breed for both muscle depth and beef value.

Goldies Victory

Success for the Goldie family continued into Friday with Goldies Viscount standing continental beef breeder champion, with field mate Goldies Victory taking reserve spot. This 15-month-old bull has double F94L myostatin, he is sired by Ampertaine Opportunity and out of the Goldies Juggler daughter, Goldies Piano. Viscount is in the top 1% of the breed for growth and beef value.

A special mention goes to Thomas Goldie of the Goldies Limousin herd, who triumphed in the beef young handlers competition before being crowned young handler champion of champions at the 2025 Royal Highland Show— well-deserved and a bright sign for the future of the breed.

The Limousin females also shone brightly in Thursday’s championships, with Crajan Unison being awarded female champion. Bred by Craig Johnston of Penrith, Cumbria, the February 2023-born heifer carries double F94L myostatin. Sired by Gunnerfleet Lion and out of Crajan Melody, a Wilodge Cerberus daughter, Unison impressed with her balance and breed character. Her success extended beyond the female championship, as she was also a key member of both the champion interbreed team and the champion beef interbreed pairs.

Crajan Unison

Claiming the reserve female champion title was Grahams Umandy, an 18-month-old heifer sired by Gunnerfleet Lion and out of Ironstone Dumandy, a cow with a distinguished show record. Umandy carries NT821/Q204X myostatin and impressed the judge with her presence and quality. She too contributed to the beef interbreed team championship, cementing her value in an already standout team.

Sincere thanks go to all competitors, supporters, and organisers for making it a fantastic showcase of cattle. A special thank-you also goes to the sponsors of the Limousin classes for their generous support. An outstanding week for the Limousin breed at the 2025 Royal Highland Show.
