The sale of Limousin bulls and females, held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on 1st–2nd May 2026, showcased an impressive display of quality stock, with bulls to suit a wide range of budgets and production systems. There was a great range of value for buyers with quality bulls available at affordable prices, resulting in 54% of bulls selling between 4,000gns to 9,000gns.
Demand remained strong throughout, resulting in an almost total clearance rate, as commercial producers continued to seek proven, functional genetics for ease of calving, strong conformation, and growth.
With Limousin-bred cattle continuing to dominate the commercial beef sector across the UK, confidence in the breed remains exceptionally strong. This was clearly reflected in the level of investment from buyers looking to secure reliable genetics capable of enhancing productivity and profitability within their herds.

The Goldies herd delivered a truly exceptional and historic performance in the show ring, once again dominating the highest honours by securing both the overall champion and reserve overall champion titles, having previously claimed the overall and reserve championships at the February 2026 fixture. On this occasion, Lot 130 Goldies Vainqueur was crowned overall champion, with Lot 165 Goldies Velocity taking reserve overall champion, a result that clearly underlines the outstanding depth of quality within the herd. This is also the fourth overall championship in a row at Carlisle for the Goldie family, having been awarded overall champion at every Carlisle bull sale since May 2025.
To achieve both top accolades at a single sale is an impressive accomplishment in its own right, but to replicate this feat at consecutive sales elevates it to an extraordinary level. Such sustained dominance marks history in the modern Limousin era and firmly establishes the Goldies herd as a benchmark of excellence at the very highest level.

Having secured overall champion at the pre-sale show, Lot 130 Goldies Vainqueur was snapped up by RG and RS Whitley, Buckley, Clwyd for their Haulfryn pedigree herd for 38,000gns. The July 2024-born embryo calf has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM50, which is in the top 10% for the breed. He is sired by the 32,000gns Goldies Torpedo and out of the homebred Goldies Olive, a Wilodge LJ daughter who was also the granddam of Goldies Vista who was reserve champion in Carlisle in February this year selling for 55,000gns.

Mr Richard Priestley of the Brontemoor Limousin herd kindly judged the pre-sale show, he commented “There was a tremendous show of bulls brought forward which are a credit to all the exhibitors. The overall champion and reserve overall champion are two outstanding bulls and really stood out in the line-up. The future of the Limousin breed is bright with powerful bulls that have all the required traits to lead the commercial market. The strong trade reflected the high quality of bulls forward. Store buyers and butchers have strong preference for Limousin cattle, as they have superior carcass qualities, achieving finished weights quicker with great fleshing ability. Butchers also like them for their superior carcass cover compared to other breeds.”

Selling for 27,000gns was Lot 184 Ampertaine Vandyke presented for sale by Messrs W J and J McKay, Maghera, Co Derry. This October 2024 born calf has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM45, which is in the top 10% for the breed. Vermont has double F94L myostatin and has impressive EBV’s with his 200 day and 400 day growth in the top 10% of the breed and a Beef Value of LM50, putting him firmly in the top 10% for the breed. He is sired by Ampertaine Majestic and out of a Haltcliffe Vermount daughter, Procters Rdiamante, who was purchased for 16,000gns as a yearling. Proctors Rdiamante is also the dam of Anside Vulcan who sold for 20,000gns at Stirling, February 2026.

Their top price bull at 24,000gns was Lot 112 Loosebeare View, a Quickeeze Spike son and out of the homebred cow Loosebeare Pimp. Born May 2024, View was first in his class at the pre-sale show, he has double F94L myostatin and his 200 day and 400 day growth traits are in the top 10% of the breed.
