• Woodmarsh Veronica takes home overall Limousin champion
  • Limousin heifer crowned commercial champion
  • Limousin crowned champions in coveted interbreed group of five
  • Limousin clinch reserve champion in the interbreed junior male championship
  • Limousin awarded champion in interbreed junior female pairs of the future championship

Scorching hot conditions in Builth Wells set the scene for a highly contested Limousin line up on Monday the 20th July 2026 at the Royal Welsh Show. Despite the challenging heat, exhibitors from across the UK presented an outstanding display of cattle, with exceptional depth of quality throughout the classes making for a fiercely competitive day’s judging. From stylish heifers to powerful breeding bulls packed with performance figures, the standard on display once again highlighted the continued strength and commercial appeal of the Limousin breed.

Woodmarsh Veronica, overall champion from M and J C Gould.

Taking centre stage at the end of the day was Woodmarsh Veronica from M and J C Gould, Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury, who claimed the overall championship after an impressive run through the female section. The July 2024-born heifer is sired by Graiggoch Rambo and out of Wilodge Onhigh, a Powerful Irish daughter. She carries a Beef Value of LM37 and Q204X/NT419 myostatin.

The Gould family enjoyed a memorable day in the ring, with Woodmarsh Veronica also securing the awards for best maiden heifer bred by exhibitor and best female bred by exhibitor. The Gould family were also awarded as the breeder of the overall champion.

Judge Mr Chris Pennie of the Sarkley Limousins herd, Montgomery, Powys.

Presiding over this year’s judging was Mr Chris Pennie of the Sarkley Limousins herd, Montgomery, Powys. No stranger to the show ring, Chris was tasked with placing an exceptionally strong line-up and commented: “My champion was a real Limousin type. She caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. She is full of class and character, combined with great confirmation. A truly worthy champion.”

Whinfellpark Verdani, reserve overall champion from Messrs Jenkinson.

Following on from their success at the Great Yorkshire Show just a week earlier, Messrs Jenkinson, Penrith, Cumbria added another major accolade to their season when Whinfellpark Verdani secured the reserve overall championship, having already being crowned overall Limousin champion at the Great Yorkshire Show. The January 2024-born heifer, sired by Graiggoch Rambo and out of Whinfellpark Gazer, combines an outstanding pedigree with exceptional figures, carrying F94L/Q204X myostatin and an impressive Beef Value of LM57, placing her growth and performance comfortably within the breed’s top 1%.

Later on in the week Whinfellpark Verdani also teamed up with stable mate Whinfellpark Vaila to take home the exhibitor bred pairs championship beef.
Arradfoot Underdog, male champion from Thor Atkinson.

The August 2023-born bull Arradfoot Underdog from Thor Atkinson, Ulverston, Cumbria came through the strong male classes to claim the male championship. A Goldies Jackpot son, he has F94L/NT821 myostatin and a Beef Value of LM51. He is out Upperffrydd Pippa, a Trueman Jagger daughter.

Cowin Actionman, reserve male champion from Dyfan and Carol James.

Reserve male champion and best junior male honours went to Cowin Actionman from Dyfan and Carol James, Carmarthenshire. Born in January 2025, the Glenrock Stillgame son is out of the homebred Mereside Lorenzo daughter Cowin Oelliw. Carrying F94L/NT821 myostatin and boasting a top 1% Beef Value of LM53, Actionman underlined his credentials later in the week by winning the prestigious elite junior bull performance championship, a competition that rewards both visual excellence and performance recorded data. Success for the James family didn’t stop there, as Cowin Actionman also picked up reserve champion in the junior interbreed male championship.

Perth Astarspice best junior female from Sion Wyn Jones.

Perth Astarspice from Sion Wyn Jones claimed the best junior female title. Born in February 2025, she is by the 50,000gns Everpark Partylight and out of the homebred Perth Oliviaspice, who is a full sister to the record breaking 250,000gns Wilodge Poshspice. The promising young heifer also picked up awards for the best exhibitor bred junior heifer as well as best exhibitor bred female residing in Wales. She carries double Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM42.

Maered and Laura Hughes exhibiting Pabo Allspice and Pabo Aron (left to right).

The Hughes family of the Pabo Limousins herd, Anglesey, enjoyed another successful Royal Welsh Show with their impressive team of homebred bulls. Pabo Aron and Pabo Allspice combined to win the best pair bred by exhibitor before being joined by Pabo Arbest to top the group of three bred by exhibitor class.

A special mention also goes to Iestyn Hughes on winning The Charles Arch Memorial Award, in the young handlers competition in the beef section! At only 14 years old and his first time showing at the Royal Welsh Show, it is a fantastic achievement, Iestyn is a future star in the making. It is great to see that the future of Limousin breeding is in safe hands.

Rounding off a memorable week for the breed, Limousin cattle enjoyed further success in the interbreed championships. Perth Astarspice, exhibited by Sion Wyn Jones, teamed up with Grahams Vavavoom from R J Graham to win the interbreed junior female pairs of the future championship.

Team of five- interbreed champions.

Further interbreed success followed as the Limousin team claimed the coveted interbreed team of five championship, triumphing over a superb field of more than 80 animals representing the very best of the UK’s beef breeds. The winning Limousin team comprised of Arradfoot Underdog, Whinfellpark Rebecca, Whinfellpark Verdani, Grahams Violet and Whinfellpark Vaila.

The Hangover, supreme commercial champion, owned by Andrew Ireland and JCB Commercials – bred by Brian Harper of the Greenwells herd.

Success continued in the commercial section, where Limousin breeding again came to the fore. Supreme commercial champion was awarded to The Hangover, owned by Andrew Ireland and JCB Commercials and bred by Brian Harper of the Greenwells herd. This follows on from their success at the Royal Highland Show where this heifer was also crowned supreme commercial champion.

Reserve commercial champion honours went to the Pennie family with their Limousin heifer Anny, who had earlier been crowned baby beef champion. She is sired by the Plumtree Fantastic son Eniver Rocky.
Reserve commercial female champion was also awarded to a Limousin bred heifer from Mr and Mrs M Alford.
