A strong demand for bulls reached 27,000gns for Allanfauld Nemesis, from John and Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Bull Sale held on Saturday May 4th at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

A first prize winner in class seven of the pre sale show, Allanfauld Nemesis, a bull with power and tremendous conformation, sold to the Knock herd of Messrs Howie, Stuartfield, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Got by the AI sire Loosebeare Fantastic, this November 2017 born bull is out of Allanfauld Elegance from the noted Allanfauld Bindaree bloodline.

Taking the second top price of 25,000gns was Goldies Neymar from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries. A first prize winner in class ten this November 2017 born bull had stood as Reserve Intermediate Champion under the eye of pre sale show judge Ken Jones of the noted Garnedd herd in Conwy, North Wales. Goldies Neymar, got by AI, is by the 45,000gns sire Ampertaine Jamboree and is out of Goldies Fragrance, a daughter of the herd’s prolific Goldies Vitality. Purchasing this bull was Messrs Owen, Aberhafesp, Newtown, Powys. From a strong pen of bulls the Goldies also had the third top price of 16,000gns paid for the Goldies Ohboy. This time January 2018 born, Goldies Ohboy is a son of Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the Mas Du Clo daughter Millington Gorgeous. Purchasing this bull was Messrs Neale for their pedigree herd at Werrington, Launceston, Cornwall. On the evening prior to the bull sale the Goldies also achieved the top price at the female sale when selling Goldies Norma for 14,000gns to Messrs Morrison, Cornhill, Banff, Aberdeenshire.

In all 102 bulls sold to average £6381 and with a clearance rate of 80% of the 127 bulls forward. The sale met with a strong demand as pedigree breeders and commercial producers competed for their choice of bulls. Continuing recent Limousin sale trends there was again very much an emphasis on easy calving, easy fleshing bulls with good all round performance figures. Commercial beef producers were again keying in on the breed’s natural traits of easy calving, efficiency, and superior carcase qualities.
