CARLISLE ‘FRIDAY FEMALES’ TOP AT 7,100GNS
The British Limousin Cattle Society sale of females held on Friday 14th February on the eve of the Spring Bull Sale at Carlisle saw a top price of 7,100gns. This was for a cow-and-calf unit which was sold as part of the dispersal of the Newmark Limousin Herd on behalf of Mark Phillips, Mains of Minnydow, Springholm, Castle Douglas. Bred by Messrs John Logan, Homebyres Gina, a 2011-born sixth calver by Homebyres Vanhee and out of Homebyres Christina (by Homebyres Arnott), made 4,800gns to D Smyth, County Down with her calf at foot, Homebyres Pina, selling for 2,300gns to Messrs Ward, Frome, Somerset. Overall, nine Newmark lots averaged £2,823.
At 6,700gns was Brockhurst Oriana which was consigned by Phil & Sharon Sellers, Thorpe Tilney, Lincs. Bred by WJ & M Mash, Chesham, this two-year-old bulling heifer is by Hafodlas Domino and out of Brockhurst Lucy and had stood Reerve Champion at Borderway Agri Expo and Champion at the Winter Stock Festival, Peterborough in 2019. She was purchased by Andrew Ewing, Annan on behalf of a client.
Messrs Wilson, Wreay, Carlisle paid 6,000gns for Barrons Polo from Willie Barron, Burnhope, Co Durham. Born in January 2019, Polo is by the Mereside Godolphin son, Barrons Major, and out of the Waindale UFO-sired Sarkley Floss.
