On Wednesday 15th July 2026, the Limousin classes took centre stage at the Great Yorkshire Show, with blazing sunshine and soaring temperatures creating a fitting backdrop to a day of outstanding competition.
The ringside atmosphere reflected the exceptional standard of cattle on display, as exhibitors from across the UK presented a high-quality line-up that gave judge Henry Savage Jnr, Cullyhanna, Co. Armagh, a challenging task in selecting his champions. Commenting on the day’s judging, he said: “My champion is an outstanding example of the breed. She has great width and is very balanced and correct with a great presence. A very worth winner on the day”.
Top honours went to Whinfellpark Verdani from Messrs Jenkinson, Penrith, Cumbria, who was crowned overall Limousin champion after coming through a highly contested female championship. Born January 2024, this well-balanced heifer oozes style and breed character in abundance. Verdani is an embryo calf sired by the world record breaking Graiggoch Rambo and out of the homebred Grahams Dublin daughter Whinfellpark Gazer. She has F94L/Q204X myostatin, growth figures that all hit the top 1% for the breed, and an impressive Beef Value of LM53 that place her firmly in the top 1% of the breed.
Reserve overall champion was awarded to Glenrock Voodoomagic from Messrs S and T Illingworth, Dumfries and Galloway. Born October 2024, Voodoomagic is sired by the homebred bull Glenrock Stillgame, a Wilodge LJ son and out of the Sympa cow Glenrock Redruby. She has F94L/NT821 myostatin and a Beef Value in the top 1% of LM60.
Glenrock Voodoomagic later went on to win the overall junior interbreed championship and was part of the team that went on to win overall junior interbreed group of four. Her success follows on from a fantastic show season having been crowned reserve overall champion and reserve interbreed junior champion at the Royal Highland Show and overall champion at the Scottish Grand Prix in June.
Garrowby Tarzan was the judges choice for the male championship. This May 2022-born bull from R and J Graham, Bridge of Allan, Stirling, is sired by Grahams Rooney and out of a Plumtree Fantastic daughter, Gunnerfleet Nacian. Tarzan has F94L/Q204X myostatin and Beef Value of LM41. This follows on from his success at the Scottish Grand Prix where he was crowned Male Champion and Reserve Overall Champion.
Reserve male champion and best junior bull went to Whinfellpark Avancii from Messrs Jenkinson. Avancii, born in March 2025, has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM45, which is in the top 10%. He is sired by the herds stock sire Sarkley Tyndall and out of a Gunnerfleet Lion daughter, Whinfellpark Tabitha.
Mr S Gilleard, Thorne, Doncaster brought Thorninghurst Austin into the ring who went on to win reserve junior bull. Born March 2025, he has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a Beef Value of LM37. Austin is sired by Wilodge Randy, the herd purchased Randy as a calf at foot at the Wilodge and Brockhurst sale in January 2021, the outfit sold for 11,000gns.
The Limousin teams also went on to win overall junior interbreed group of four and overall reserve senior interbreed group of four. The winning Junior Interbreed Group of Four consisted of Grahams Angelo, Glenrock Voodoomagic, Glenrock Versace and Grahams Vavavoom.
Claiming Reserve spot in the senior interbreed group of four was Garrowby Tarzan, Brockhurst Upandcoming, Whinfellpark Verdani and Grahams Violet.
Limousin also enjoyed success in the commercial ring, with Toffee, a Limousin bred heifer from Ben Beckitt clinching reserve champions honours.
