Trueman Fantasia takes Pedigree Championship for H Savage & Sons
James Alexander wins Commercial Championship
On Saturday 17th September 2011 the Northern Ireland Young Limousin Breeders’ Club (NIYLB) celebrated the 10th Anniversary of their annual Calf Spectacular held at Moira Pedigree Sales Arena.
Miss Kathryn Lawson from the Windsole Limousin Herd, Rahalloch, Auchterarder, Perthshire judged an outstanding show of pedigree Limousin calves oozing style, quality and correctness which was highlighted by her line-up of first prize winners. The pedigree championship consisted of Carnew Formulaone, owned and exhibited by J&J Aiken; Trueman Fantasia from H Savage & Sons; Ballyrobin Gazza brought out by J Gilliland; Frewstown Gold, exhibited by D Frew; Oldehouse Gunner, owned by J Ferguson & Sons; and Cornonagh Gem, owned and exhibited by M Donaghy.
After careful consideration Miss Lawson finally selected the impressive Trueman Fantasia from Henry Savage and Sons, Skerriff Road, Altnamackin, Newry as her Pedigree Champion sponsored by Animax who also took home the McDonalds of Sprucefield Cup for the Best Exhibitor Bred Animal. This September 2010 heifer calf was sired by the 100,000gns world record-priced bull, Haltcliffe Vermount. Her dam, Trueman Acoustics, also bred the highest priced Limousin heifer from Northern Ireland, Truemen Duet, who was sold at the 2009 Red Ladies Sale in Carlisle for 38, 000gns.
Reserve Pedigree Champion was Ballyrobin Gazza, owned and exhibited by Joan Gilliland, Ballyrobin Road, Antrim. This stylish February 2011 born bull calf was sired by the Haltcliffe Underwriter and is out of the Rocky daughter, Ballyrobin Dolce.
Miss Lawson was then tasked with judging the Limousin commercial classes. Winning the steers was Rockafella with the heifer title going to Pippa, both owned and exhibited by James Alexander,Gloverstown Road, Randalstown. The September 2010 born Pippa, sired by Carmorn Cantona, a Wilodge Vantastic son, went on to secure the Overall Commercial Championship with the Reserve Commercial Award going to Drumflugh Lady, owned and exhibited by Finnegan Livestock, Drumflugh Road, Dungannon.
