The North West Midlands & North Wales Club year started in January with the AGM held at The Castle Hotel, Bletchley, where approximately 50 members attended and enjoyed a beef dinner followed by an informative talk by Ian Pritchard, SAC on the new health requirements at the premier Society sales. Elected as Chairman for the coming year was Meirion Thomas with Alison Clark being secretary joined by new committee members Rob Kirton, Colin Lewis and Will Forrester.

The Club only held one stock judging event this year and this was held on probably one of the hottest days of the year at the Garyvaughan herd by kind permission of Mr & Mrs C Lewis & Family. A lot of time and effort had gone into preparing the cattle for this event as the majority of the cattle were tied up. Due to the weather not many people attended but a good time was had and good cattle were viewed especially calves by Plumtree Deus.

The overall winners of last year’s herd competition was the Garnedd Herd owned by Mr & Mrs K Jones & Family who held an Open Day in late August where over 400 people attended and saw some excellent cattle. The 2011 calves were excellent as were the bulls by Attirant which were bound forCarlisle. It has been a long time since this many people attended an Open Day being great publicity for the Limousin breed. The money raised on the raffle and stock judging was given to the Air Ambulance. The Garnedd Herd also represented our area in this year’s National Pedigree Herd Competition gaining first place in the best stock bull class with Attirant.

This year’s Club trip went to the North West of England where 37 people visited the pedigree Limousin herds of Procters and Netherhall. Due to the very wet ground conditions only two herds but Mr Towers stepped in at very short notice to offer us the opportunity of viewing his farm which keeps over 1,000 fattening cattle. This was a very enjoyable weekend where the hospitality was excellent.

Club sales were once again had in the spring at Ruthin, Welshpool, and Bakewell and in the autumn at Welshpool.

The Club’s annual dinner and dance was held at Hollin Hall near Macclesfield where 84 people attended and had a very enjoyable evening. The herd competition judge this year was John Phillips who after the meal gave the herd competition results with the overall champion herd going to the Garnedd Herd of Ken Jones & Family.

With membership of the Club increasing every year with new members always welcome, we are looking forward to another sociable year in 2012.
