A 4,000gns bid for the five-year-old cow, Glassick Chestnut, topped the British Limousin Cattle Society Dispersal Sale of the Glassick Herd on behalf of Mr AW Dunn, Glassick Farm, Braco, Dunblane, Perthshire held at United Auctions, Stirling on Saturday 22nd September 2012.
June 2007 born, Glassick Chestnut, a very strong third calver by Clarkton Sirocco and out of Glassick Velvet, was sold with her promising bull calf at foot, Glassick Harrier, sired by Knock Atlas. She sold back in calf to Mr F MacDonald, Aspenbank, Turriff, Aberdeenshire for his Aspenbank pedigree Limousin herd.
The Glassick Herd was established by Alasdair Dunn in 1991 with the purchase of Balavil Eve from Mr R MacPhersson, Conon Bridge, Dingwall. Senior herd sire Knock Atlas, who was purchased in February 2007 when standing Reserve Champion, has been used extensively in the high health status Glassick Herd having sired bulls to 6,200gns at Perth for Glassick Drogba in October 2009.
Two lots made 3,800gns apiece – both being purchased by Mr NR Barclay, South Road, Insch, Aberdeenshire for his Harestone prefix. The first was Glassick Angel, an impressive seven-year-old daughter of Clarkton Legend and out of Glassick Suzanne, who went under the hammer with her Knock Atlas-sired bull calf, Glassick Henrik, and once more having run with the same bull. The other at 3,800gns was Glassick Angel’s daughter, Glassick Evie, sired by Knock Atlas, who sold with a four-month-old bull calf at foot, Glassick Hunter, by the sire Attila. Glassick Evie was knocked down having run with the French bull, Feroce. Both Attila and Feroce are herd sires from the Lodge Limousin Herd, Stirling. Mr Barclay also purchased the 2005-born cow, Glassick Amethyst, sold PD’d in-calf to Knock Atlas for 3,100gns. Amethyst is by Clarkton Legend and is out of Glassick Opal.
Glassick Diva achieved the next highest price at 3,200gns, being a four-year-old cow by Knock Atlas and out of Glassick Topaz. She sold with her Attila-sired heifer calf at foot, Glassick Hope, and having run with Feroce, to Messrs C&L Murphy, Stripeside, Benrinnes, Aberlour for their Stripeside Herd.
Glassick Angel continued to feature heavily in the other leading prices which saw in-calf heifers sold to 3,000gns for Glassick Fudge, a very well grown daughter of Knock Atlas and out of Glassick Angel, who was also snapped up by NR Barclay. She was sold having run with the bull Feroce. Heifer calves reached a top of 1,900gns for Glassick Ghirl, a May 2001-born daughter of Knock Atlas and once more out of Glassick Angel.
